How about saying something like your mother mentioned a GI's name with fondness, and you wonder if they are related? You could say where and when they met.

A difficult one, especially if his family know nothing about any child outside of marriage. Not sure how you would work family medical history into contact, if they don't know about you without giving the game away. Perhaps you could fib and say that she mentioned that there was some sort of inherited illness in the family, and did it skip his generation? That might be better left to any follow up correspondence.

Let's hope gitrace can come up with an experienced suggestion

Hi Jonesey
Thank you for your reply & suggestion...I do have a message on gitrace...but I have found a name that is as I know It to be with the nick name I know it to be...but the only thing is there is a possibility that it could be either senior or junior as they both went by the same name & nick names & both in the military....I will see if I can find someone on Gitrace to help me word a message.
Thank you again for your very kind help
P.

Quite a dilemma.

During my lifetime I have encountered 2 people whose birth was the result of a liaison between an American serviceman and their mother who successfully managed to trace their father. Indeed one of the fathers was subsequently introduced to me by his proud daughter. As far as I know they did so with the help of www.gitrace.org

If your quest is of a similar nature then perhaps they can help either with your search or in guiding you towards the best method of approach or the wording of your letter.

Good luck.

Dear Gins
As far as I know he did know I was on the way... but left..
the other thing I meant to say was it is because of family health issues as well that are not on my mothers side...this is a big part of trying to find his family medical history as well as wanting to know something about him for myself...He could have passed away by now as It was in 1948.but I would still like to know something about who he was.
Thank you very much for your reply & suggestion.

Does your birth father know about you and your birth?

If so, you could word the letter in a way that you dont mention your connection, but you mearly state that you are researching your family tree and you feel that there may be a connection?

Then give your birth details, leaving out any connection with the possible father.

You can then add all your contact details and hope that the person makes contact with you

I wonder if anyone could give me some advise on how to write a standard message...Please
I am looking for any information about my Birth Father....when I find a name I have for him, his C Birthdate & nick name...I would like to be able to contact the person who's family he belongs to incase it is my Birth Fathers family.
But I have to be careful because It may not be him.. but unless I ask I will never know...so many times when I have found someone who is a good possibilty ..I havn't contact the member as I am not sure what to write & I wouldn't want to upset them or frighten them away .
The things I would have to include in the message would be the area & the year date he would have there....I know he was in the Military...& I am told the USA by very reliable people..but that was all that they know
Thank you in advance
Sonearsofar...P
