I'm copying over some relevant info to give people the background:

Possible baptism for Bridget - father's name is John:

Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967
Name: Bridget M Gallagher
Event Year: 1862
Event: Naissance (Birth)
Religion: Catholique
Place of Worship or Institution: Québec (Saint Patrick)
Province: Québec

... I'll see if I can decipher the writing,EDIT - below is the best I can make out:

On 23 February 1862 we undersigned have baptised Bridget Maria born 17th inst. of the lawful marriage of John Gallagher (Drummer in the Seventeenth Regiment) and of Margaret Blythe. Sponsors Michael Garrity, Julia Crowle (or Craule?) undersigned with the father.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Possible marriage for Bridget's parents:
Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967
Name: John Gallagher
Spouse: Margaret Blythe
Event Year: 1861
Event: Mariage (Marriage)
Religion: Methodist
Place of Worship or Institution: Québec (Methodist) (Québec (Wesleyan Methodist Church))
Province: Québec
John Gallagher xxxx 17 Regiment Quebec and Margaret Blythe of the same place, spinster, were united in marriage by authority of the publication of banns in Quebec. on 17 December 1861 in the presence of witnesses.
Witnesses appear to be Byrne and M Garety.
xxxx means I can't make the word out.
Ok I'm sorry I didn't think of putting them together
MarieCeleste
MarieCeleste Report 31 Mar 2012 17:54
I'm putting a link to the previous thread as it seems that it's the parents of Bridget Maria Gallagher that are being sought and we could end up overlapping:
Thank you it was worth a try
MarieCeleste Report 31 Mar 2012 17:51
Here's the info from that 1901:
John born 9 Dec 1834 NB
Margaret b 9 Mar 1844 PEI
Lily b 25 Dec 1880 NB
Gertrude b 28 Oct 1883 NB
I'm guessing NB means New Brunswick, haven't a clue what PEI means.
EDIT: See Margee's cleared up the PEI mystery for me above!
Here's that 1901 census for John & Margaret but I don't think it's your family. Click on "Proof Page" to see original. John was born New Brunswick, Margaret Prince Edward Island and children New Brunswick.
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1861/pdf/4108538_00981.pdf
In 1861, you should also check the rest of their enumeration on the next page. However, this is usually blank, as it is here.
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1861/pdf/4108537_00692.pdf
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1861/pdf/4108538_00982.pdf
As you'll see from the filler facing the continuation page, the nominal census day was 14/1/1861.
For 1871-1901, the nominal census day was either the same day as, or the day after, the UK census day.
The city directory (Annuaires Lovell de Montréal et sa banlieue[=suburbs] (1842-1999)) is online at:
http://bibnum2.banq.qc.ca/bna/lovell/
In 1861-2, George Reiniger is a butcher living at 103 Wellington, and C Gallagher is a merchant tailor at 47 St Maurice.
Frs X (mistranscribed as F.R. on Ancestry) will be Francis Xavier - St F X is the patron saint of missionaries in foreign parts - not an unusual name in Quebec.
In 1852, C Gallagher is a merchant tailor at 233 St Paul - Rue Saint Paul Ouest is 1 block from St Maurice and 3 blocks from Wellington, near the start of the Lachine Canal.
In 1870, John is living at 401 Notre Dame and working at F & J Gallagher, shoe-fitters.
Francis also works there. Notre Dame is 1 block from St Maurice, so it looks like I've followed the same family, but on the census, John is marr to Harriet, and they've got a 2 y.o., Annie H,
so something's screwed up somewhere.
Sylann, why didn't you add this to your Gregory thread where I originally posted that marriage for you? People would have had the background then.
Cross referencing might also yield further info about William and Maria.
Doing some digging !!
If John Gallagher & Margaret Blythe married in 1861 Quebec they should have both been living close to each other not sure what month the canadian census was
On Familysearch 1861 census (just gives names and where born)
Their is only one Margaret Blythe b 1841 Ireland living Montreal Ste-Anne Quebec
And their is a JJ Gallagher born Monteal 1844 at Ste-Anne Quebec
Any thoughts would be grateful
Sylann Report 29 Mar 2012 17:27
Thank you I'll make a note of that site
Their the right names John & Margaret But that would make Margaret 17 when she married John and having children for 22 years which they did then ?? But it's proving it
