Find Ancestors

I am seeking confirmation of their birth details and marriage. They were probably born 1840-1850 in Ireland and had children James & Catherine Jervis in 1884 & 1885 in Armagh Ireland.
Thomas was a coachmaker and apparently went to Scotland before leaving for Jersey City USA, where he died in 1892. Another daughter Mary was born in 12/1892 in the USA after his death. They then came to Australia in the late 1890's by ship.
If anyone can assist me in confirming these details or referring me to a source of information, I would be grateful. I would also seek details of the voyage details from USA.

Yes Reggie, I realise he is in Australia but he was busy posting some of the duplicate threads an hour after I posted that marriage for Thomas Jervis and Ellen McKeown!

Well, he's been back to one of his threads, but doesn't seem to plan on conforming to the guidelines about multiple posting

It would also be useful to know roughly WHERE in Australia they settled, if he wants immigration details - is's a big place!

David it is best to reply on the thread. That way all the helpers can see what is going on. I hope you don't mind me pasting the info of your PM here as I think it may be useful to the other helpers.

Catherine appears to be correct, while James could be correctly born in 1883. Catherine was my grandmother. From the above it looks like Ellen / Elinor may have remarried. Did that happen in the USA or Australia please David?

And what was her 2nd husband's name? (or surname at least!)

They appear to end up in NSW and James marries in 1912....so sometime between 1892 and 1912 arrival (if all info provided is correcct)

Problem is UNassisted Immigration from the USA during that period could be a bother to find...ESPECIALLY if Elinor remarried in the US as they could all travelled under new husbands surname...

Thanks for your assistance everyone. After Thomas Jervis died and Mary Jervis was born in New York in 1892, Ellen and the children migrated to Australia to live with relatives in Sydney New South Wales. Catherine was married in Sydney in 1912. Ellen did not remarry to my knowledge but her name appears on the marriage certificate as Elinor McEwen. Seeking suggestions of research into immigration records USA to Australia after 1892 & immigration records UK to USA after 1885 . No further enquiries.
