Clayton is a suburb and a ward in the south of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.

There is a Clayton in Staffordshire and in Yorkshire.
Sometimes the enumerator will make his own guess as to the county from his own knowledge.
For instance I found one of mine recently where he said Buttermere so Cumberland was added. It should have read Buttermere Wiltshire.
I have some who said Birling in Kent but the enumerator has written Berlin Germany.

The 1881 Clara Etcher is the only time she appears so would suggest a mistranscription or an enumerator hazarding a guess to spelling as he heard it.

She does not show on freebmd.

This couple live in Clayton staffs 1871 but no Clara

Think that William is Etches in 1861

You say yo have no other info so how do you get to her?

You did not pull her name out of a hat so does she have siblings, children or are you looking to see if she is related to the Pritchards,

HI Lady Kira, the Pritchards are my ggg grandparents, and I was trying to find if Clara was related somewhere down the line, she is with the Pritchards in the 1881 census and then I could not find her anywhere else so thought I'd ask for help incase I was missing something!  thanks for your input
