Reggie - I never meant to imply you hadn't understood the question, I merely meant to imply that you hadn't answered it. Well, clearly I missed the little "x" that closed the overlay.
Here's FMP's Churchill

Rather quirky that being a Member Of Parliament is listed in the Disability column.

Here's another look up at Ancestry, FS and FMP:

Incidentally, the original FMP c&p (uneditted) is:

I don't agree this is better than the old FS format - all the source & house info has line breaks at the wrong places, plus there's unnecessary line breaks in the pob and I get stray "VIEW"s poppimg up at the end of everyone's line.
Anyway, the point of posting John Dowson is that I can tell from my original Ancestry record that I wasn't happy abt his occup - it didn't make sense - and I looked at image and decided "Rn" was a mistranscription of "Riv", and I indicated that in my notes by adding my correction in []s.
This is the only example I can produce now, but I have gotten the impression that both Ancestry and FMP use FS's 1881 transcription. More generally, I think Ancestry & FS use the same transcription on other censuses. Also, LAC & Ancestry use FS's 1881 Canada transcription, and FS/LAC use Ancestry's 1871, 1891 Canada.
FMP and Ancestry have difft transcriptions for the UK censuses (excl 1881) My opinion is that FMP's are more accurate.
Also Ancestry & AG have difft transcriptions for Canada, 1852, 1901, 1906, 1911. http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-911.009-e.html
Generally, Ancestry's (old style) search screen is the easiest to use, I think. It's definitely useful to be able to search for Sarah, d/o William and Elizabeth (or d/o Wil* & Eli*) in Co Durham when the surname's gotten butchered.

Peter Calver of LostCousins has written about this 'problem' in his latest newsletter article 'FamilySearch - old site on the way out?'.....
http://www.lostcousins.com/newsletters/may12news.htm
He suggests using the free access to the 1881 on Findmypast as "you can get a printout out of the entire household that is even better than the one that FamilySearch used to offer"....

Reggie - the question was never if the census was FREE or not, but rather how did you get at it. The link you posted doesn't take me to the original site that I can see, but to some other site.
Thelma's link does get me to the old site that I recognize, but when I click on the census link there, it takes me to the new site (but as T said, I can get the old format by searching "all resources" on her URL).

OK, so I never thought of it being part of All Resources. However, the limitations on the search capabilities of all resources effectively cripple it for many names.
I just looked up John Lowe for another thread - all resources says there's 400+ hits (Ancestry has 1298), but when I limit it to Oxfordshire, Ancestry just gives me 16 hits. It's practicable to spot my guy in 16 hits, but not 1298.
However, if I first look him up on Ancestry and get his exact year of birth, all resources lets me use that and I'm down to a practicable 26 hits, and I do get the formatted display I like, but it seems a cack-handed way of doing it. It would probably be worth it if I had a dozen adults with occupations in the h/h, though, like I did with Churchill.

You can also do a free look up at Ancestry (but no free image) - you might have to do a free registration first - I forget.
I prefer the old style search - go to the home page: http://www.ancestry.co.uk/ From the main banner bar, select Serch - Search all records The old/new style switch appears at far right, just under the main banner bar. You can then choose Search - Census & Electoral rolls, and then choose the English (say) 1881. Wales 1881 and US 1880 are also free. Actually, you can search any census, but if it's not free, you won't get full details. E.g. 1881 Canada just gives me:
Name Home in 1881 Birth Year Birthplace View Images William L.M. King township, Waterloo North, Ontario 1875 location and hides township=Berlin, location=Ontar on the summary, and won't let me view details.
Here's Churchill's details just copied and pasted as is:
1881 England Census about Winston (Master) Churchill Name: Winston (Master) Churchill [Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill] Age: 6 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1875 Relation: Son Father's Name: Randolph (Lord) Churchill Mother's Name: Randolph (Lady) Churchill Gender: Male Where born: Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England Civil parish: St James County/Island: London Country: England Street Address: 29 St James's Place Education:

Save This Record Attach this record to a person in your tree as a source record, or save for later evaluation. Save Source Citation: Class: RG11; Piece: 128; Folio: 75; Page: 38; GSU roll: 1341029.
I normally then edit the above as follows - first I delete redundant stuff, then I take the link: Neighbors: View others on page and copy and paste bits of that, then I add the marital status and occupation. In 1881, just hovering over the view record reveals them and I usually just type them in rather than clicking, then c & p-ing, then backing out. In other years, they're not transcribed, and one has to view the image to get this info (and disability info).
Eventually, I get:
1881 England Census Civil parish: St James County/Island: London Country: England Street Address: 29 St James's Place Registration district: Westminster Sub-registration district: Berwick Street ED, institution, or vessel: 16
Randolph (Lord) Churchill 32 Chelsea, Middlesex, England Head M Member Of Parliament Randolph (Lady) Churchill 27 New York, USA Wife M Winston (Master) Churchill 6 Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England Son Scholar John Churchill 1 Dublin Pheonix Park, Ireland Son Charles Howard 27 Tonbridge Wells, Sussex, England Servant Butler Dom Serv Frederick Martin 23 Canford, Dorset, England Servant Footman Elizabeth Everest 47 Chatham, Kent, England Servant Nurse Amelia Legge 30 Wimborne, Dorset, England Servant Cook Sarah Mitchell 27 London Paddington, London, Middlesex, England Servant Housemaid Jane Clark 17 Gilmorton, Leicestershire, England Servant Kitchenmaid Bessie Gorton 16 Haighworth, Wiltshire, England Servant Nursery Maid Rebecca Secret 44 Alpington, Norfolk, England Servant Ladys Maid
Source Citation: Class: RG11; Piece: 128; Folio: 75; Page: 38; GSU roll: 1341029.
It's not quite the same as the original image - the columns are reordered as it makes the c&p easier.

It used to be part of the old FS site - this site is being switched over to the new site, and the census is gone from the old site.
It's a pity as I liked the old format - the closest to the old format is http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl but this only works for Cornwall and parts of Caithness in 1881. E.g.:
Piece: RG11/2281 Place: St Germans -Cornwall Enumeration District: 6 Civil Parish: St. Germans Ecclesiastical Parish: Hessenford Folio: 64 Page: 3 Schedule: 13 Address: Buddle Gate -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks SMITH John Head M M 66 Farm Laborer Cornwall - St Germans SMITH Jane Wife M F 64 Cornwall - St Germans SMITH Richard Son W M 23 Blacksmith Cornwall - St Germans SMITH John Nephew S M 16 Farm Laborer Devon - Plymouth
You can look up the 1880 US, the 1881 Canadian, and 1881 English and Welsh censuses using the appropriate collections under:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=UNITED_STATES https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=CANADA https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=BRITISH_ISLES
For Canada, look upon FS first - it shows the whole family, then look up some member at: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1881/index-e.html so you can get the image.
Here's a look up from FS 1881 England:
