Hi All,

Thanks for the info. There are so many Goodiers in Barnton it is really hard finding the right families, and all seem to have the same christian names. My Philip's parents are Samuel and Jane although as I said he is one the census with John and Jane. I have yet to work out which side John is.

I am beginning to think he must have been at sea at the time of the census.

Thanks for your hard work.

Joyce

that looks like the one I meant Jan

Never thought the combination of Philip and Goodier would be so common in one place

There is also this, looks like Goodier on image, but age def 29 and he is a labourer in a salt works. They appear 1861 so we can discount him anyway.

on familysearch there is this one

Philip Goodier
England and Wales Census, 1851
birth: Barton,? Cheshire
census: 1851 England

have you tried searching for him without a birth year - I don't have access to look myself

this one is translated as age 29 but who knows?

edit

probably not as the next one down is a Philip age 9 - right birthplace though

Hi Kath,

Yes the Goodier name is nearly always spelt wrongly usually Goodyer or Goodyear

Hi Kah & Jan,

Yes I have all the rest on the census even the 1851. I even have the 1881 with him on his boat!

In the 1861 census he is transcribed on Findmypast as Gooders, but I can't find him under that name either in 1851.

Hi All.

I have a conundrum! Philip Goodier:

Born 1831 in Barnton Cheshire
Married 1853 to Sarah Cowley.
Parents Samuel Goodier & Jane Capper according to IGI [They married in 1830]
He was a master waterman.
Census records all have him with John Goodier & Jane Goodier [married 1835] Same Jane as with Samuel
Samuel died in 1834.
Philip died in 1895.

I have all census' but 1851 - cannot find him at all Any ideas to find him Any help will be much apreciated
