Adriene
Is it the family at: 19 Old Market Place, Cork Urban No4?

Did you locate them again in 1911?
It looks as if they may have married in Cork 1885 (3rd Quater) and Margaret's name may have been entered under HALY

Just a thought...
on the 1901 return, William stated he was 44yrs and his wife Margaret was 35 yrs.
Many men deliberately lied about their age in hope that they could qualify for a pension.
None of my Irish ancestors aged 10 yrs between census returns and some were younger at time of death than they were on their last census!
It is possible that William could be anything up to 10yrs younger that he said.

Hi Adriene,
Only the 1901 and 1911 Irish censuses exist complete. All others were largely destroyed by fire in 1922.
Where did you find this family in 1911?
In 1911 the house at 52 Commons Road was occupied by a family called Hill?

I am not sure how you would be able to get further info on this family.
The two census returns have conflicting info.
William has aged 14yrs between returns and Margaret says she has been married 23yrs, had 14 children total, and 12 still living..

Between returns there are indeed 14 children
Margaret, William and Charlotte are missing from 1911 which means that two of these died and one was living
However, daughter Margaret was aged 17 (scholar) in 1901 and therefore should be aged 27yrs at 1911,.
This does not equate with her mother being married for 23yrs?

Ive been searching on this since 2005 ,
even i cant find a birth record or baptisium date for my granfather john
its such a shame when ,i cant seem to get any further back
i did manage to write to one of the churchs in there area & they sent me 2 baptisium certificates of two of the children
my late fatherborn 1918 allways talked about william became the owner of a public house called the little man ,were my father & his brother used to run to when they were small
,so maybe your right that william was younger that the age he said
im also trying to find out the names of Williams parents

Adriene...
It would probably be easier (tongue in cheek..) to have nudged your previous thread..threads up ...even I am confused now..."The little man" is obviously hiding !!! But dont give up hope...we will find them somehow...5 years isnt that long to search...my g.grandfather O'Brien has eluded me for 9 years...but then thats what Corkmen are good at..!
I will alert Liam for when he is next going into Cork City..see if he can find anything...!!!

Hi' Adriene / Erin,
Erin, you can take it you' ve alerted me, [ha ha ]

I've checked out the 1945 guys postal directory for Evergreen Road [ Adriane mentioned this road in her earlier/ another post ] theres only one public house here in 1945 ,the owner is a Mrs O'Riodan, living at no 12.
I'll check out the church at Turners Cross, this was built in the late 1920s/30 finished in 1931, so they may hold some records, if not then, the records for this area will be in St Finbarrs [ these are both south of the river , whereas the cathedral is north of the river, therefore different parish ]
If need be then I'll go to the City next week and have a poke around and see what I can find.
its just a thought, but the Commons Road, leads on towards Killens/Blarney/ Whitechurch, they may have had some connection there.
