Hi John,

The marriage which Andrew found would appear to be correct, registered Sunderland 24 189 Q3 1842. John Robinson - Margaret Fogerty.

1861 the family were living 'on the Road east of Shotton Colliery' with John's occupation Cartman.

It looks like John had an accident and died in 1866. Registered Easington 10a 191 Q3 1866.

On the 1871 census BeverleyW found Margaret his widow is listed as 'Annuitant' which means she was receiving a Pension, probably because of John's accidental death.

Hi again John,

I have been looking back through my records as I had a family member die in 1872 in the Shotton area.

I contacted the Reference & Information Service at the Central Library in Hartlepool.

They told me newspapers of the period were The South Durham Herald, Free Press, South Durham and Cleveland Mercury.

The contact details are: Tel. 01429 263778
Email: [email protected]

Perhaps they can do some searching for you, they were very helpful to me.
