Yes I have thanks and I do believe that this is my great grandfather despite my grandfathers marriage certificate stating he was deceased. I don't think they knew any better.
Thanks
Tracey

Thanks everyone for the help. Of my recent ancestors he has always been the "tricky one". Now I can't wait to find out where he went after he "legged it" when my grandad was small. Roll on the 1921 census!!!

I initially approached my family tree all wrong and went out to gather names and dates without adding any flesh to the the bones. Now that I am doing that it s almost like starting over so I very grateful for the help and advice I'm receiving.

Thanks all
Tracey

Hi service was not all that short.

He first joined the Militia, then joined the Regular Army in 1911 for a period of 6 years.

He was discharged in 1917 at the termination of his service.

In 1916, he was also seconded to work for a company in Smethwick .... Messrs Allan Everitt & Sons Ltd, Smethwick with effect from 21-10-1916

Tracey, I think the 1911 census and the army records are one and the same man. He may have been something like a reservist so was carrying out his occupation in 1911. Records also show a gap in his postings between 23 July 1910 and 5 June 1911.

The pension records show that in 1905 he gave his nok as father William Godson of 3 Mollicut Street, Smethwick - does that match what you know? Actually, it could be the same as the 1911 address.

According to those pension records he joined in 1908 and was discharged 1917.

Could you confirm where and when your William Henry was born and give us details of that 1911?

I have the following info on my great grandfather. He goes by several names and variations ie COLDICOTT, GODSON COLDICOTT etc.

I'm interested to find out what happened during his army years. Particularly as he is no longer in the army by the time of the 1911 census.

Can anyone advice how I go about finding why his army career was so short?
Thanks
Tracey
