Tracing Turners....

Thanks for the info. In all the census returns I have located William Turner he doesn't use a middle name (also no middle name listed on James Turner's marriage certificate for his father, just William Turner).

Of course I may be wrong. As I mentioned in my original posting, how to confirm this information if they were born before 1837 and I therefore cannot obtain a birth certificate for James (or his siblings).

Appreciate the time those have spent helping me with this and the look ups they have done - thank you :-)

I have not been able to locate a birth for him (James Turner) even though I know he was born in St George Hanover Square and his father was William Turner and we have him confirmed on at least the 1841, 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 census.

Maddie - yes I guess that could be him in 1851. Thanks!

James' father William Turner was indeed a basket maker. However I have located William Turner in 1851 though living at 5 Queen Street, St George Hanover Square.

Hi - yes, I believe the James Turner you point out in the 1841 census is indeed correct.

I am yet to locate James on the 1851 census, as you point out he is not with his family.

Thanks!

Deetur Report 1 Oct 2012 13:47

Hello there,

I am hoping someone may be able to help me locate my 4x great grandfather’s birth please. His name is James Turner and according to the various census I have looked at, he was born in 1835 in St George Hanover Square, Middlesex. I appreciate he was born before 1837, so I will be unable to get a birth certificate. I have located him on the 1841, 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 census.

I do however have his marriage certificate to Caroline Maskell. His occupation is listed as Cheesemonger and his father is listed as William Turner, who I have located on the 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 census (occupation Basket Maker). I am also trying to determine William’s first wife (James’ mother) who appears on the 1841 and 1851 census with him. Her name is Mary and her DOB varies from 1794-1796. She was born in Spitalfields, Middlesex.

Again, William’s DOB varies on the census, but I think perhaps this may be him – William Turner, 1792, Yarmouth, Norfolk (making his parents according to Familysearch Richard Turner and Elizabeth Rede). I have also found some siblings with the same parents.

How do I confirmation this information if I am unable to get certificates before 1837 please?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
