Ah Jan, maybe ceri meant that she had two 1891 census records as I have a different 1891 to yours.
Is your Edward S, Edward Springfield also?

OK, so there are two Edward Springfields:-

Births Jun 1876 (>99%)
Hunt Edward Springfield Hollingbourne 2a _78

Births Jun 1883 (>99%)
Hunt Edward Springfield Hollingbourn 2a 714

.............so that's where the confusion may have come from.

So Jan's 1891 will be the correct one.

ceri

ceri Report 18 Dec 2012 23:18

sorry yes thats what i meant and the first 1891 census put on here is the reason im confused (fancy calling every generation of children the same thing lol) the first one posted is born 1883, the one i am looking for is born 1877 which i believe looks like the 2nd one posted.
The Edward on the 1901 born abt 1900 is also Edward Springfield Hunt born 1899!! Confused.com

greyghost

greyghost Report 18 Dec 2012 23:34

Just a tip - someone in 1901 says they are 50. 1901-50 = born 1851 on census. If the census were taken 31st March, the person could actually have been born April 1st 1850 to March 31st 1851. 75% more likely to have been born the year before the simple maths suggests.
Edward on the 1901 could have been aged just 1, or nearly 2 - born between April 1899 and March 1900

Thanks guys, so is there a way of searching ancestry electoral rolls for an address?
If they lived at 66 Hockley Avenue, East Ham in 1911 can i find out if they are there in future years? Even to try and find a better idea of year of death for Edward Springfield Hunt born 1876?

greyghost

greyghost Report 19 Dec 2012 21:50

Deaths Edward S Hunt 1911-1976 born 1876 =/- 2 years

Sep Qtr 1930 London City, London 1C 5 aged 56 (so born c 1874) or

Jun Qtr 1958 East Ham, Essex 5A 22 aged 82 (born c 1876)

ceri

ceri Report 19 Dec 2012 22:19

Thanks Stuart, i found the 1958 as a possibility, but wasnt able to confirm.
On Ivy's marriage cert it says her address was 66 Hockley Avenue East Ham (The same address her and her parents lived at in 1911) Ivy was married on 30th November 1930 and her father Edward Springfield Hunt is not listed as being deceased so i think its safe to say the 3rd qtr 1930 one isnt him.

Im pretty certain its going to be the 1958 one, but wondered if there was a way of checking that address electoral roll

Ceri - I don't think one should place too much reliance on the absence of a deceased notation on a marr cert. Here's an example of a bro & sis marrying, and Richard Hill was no Lazasus:

The Parish Register for St Mary, East Ham held at the Essex Record Office contains the following burial:

Edward Springfield Hunt of 66 Hockley Avenue East Ham E6, buried 12 May 1958 age 82 years.

SEAX reference is D/P 156/1/60 Image 42

It is Entry 621 in that parish log book.

ceri Report 20 Dec 2012 19:21

Oh Brilliant Thank you KenSE, what website did you use to find that info?
Thanks

Kense

Kense Report 20 Dec 2012 20:26

http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/Default.aspx

That is the site but you have to buy a subscription to view the images. £5 a day upto £75 a year.

For parish records there isn't an index to search within the parish but if you know the parish and approximate date it is usually easy to find things.

You have to register to view the SEAX index which tells you what records they have available.
