Mary Report 9 Feb 2013 13:33

Morning researchers! I did check the proni site a few years back but don't remember looking for John's will. I did see the one for his mother Margaret Hamill Christy d 1908. And, found a McAleavey working in the deeds office who sent me the tax/census maps of the area they lived in. I have to search for that info to see if it survived my computers crashing,
I started a new thread because I don't really understand how these postings work for GR.... I thought the existing one was becoming too long and difficult to navigate.
as for the new name in the mix.. just another twist in the road. Could have been the woman who nursed him in his declining years. ;-)

I know she did, she said in an earlier post she had started another thread on Patrick, having computer problem at the moment, waiting on a fella coming to fix it.

If there no image on the proni site, then the will no longer exists.

Morning Mary....Now about this M Clearn.....!!
Have have a quick look around and its not a Co Tyrone name/an Irish surname ..1911 Census had only a few and they were in the Co Antrim/Galway.....think we may have to be casting the net wider on that one...I am of the mind it could have been McClearn/ McLernon /variation....I would be after getting a copy of the Will to satisfy my curiosity if nothing else...

Mary Report 8 Feb 2013 17:28

Eugene aka Owen? So I'm guessing there is no St. Owen and they had to use Eugene? Interesting...
there are 2 cousins named John Christy who lived together on the 1911 census. I believe the one you are seeing is my bachelon g-uncle... so now the question is who is this married woman who got his money???????

I'lll be off to the nyc archives soon. I've found evidence of May Christy and some others. My list is growing longer of certs I need to look at. If any of you helpiing me have a wishlist for the NYC archives let me know. I'll be happy to help you.
I've found transcripton errors on the US federal census are very common. possibly so many people to enumerate in NYC with varied accents equals bad information. I see it rampant among the relatives that I actually knew. also consider that many of the immmigrants were here because of bad treatment from their native countries and are purposely not being truthful.

I think we are side tracking to much, just a recap, going by the children born to Thomas Christy & Margaret Hamil, and using the headstone information which only seems to me to give the names of the children who may not have married, as Margaret, Theresa & Bernard are not mentioned on it

John born 1858 died 1943 Tyrone never married
James born 1862 died 1890 States
Patrick born 1867 died 1906 States
Thomas born 1869 died 1936 Tyrone
Owen born 1871 died 1886 Tyrone
Eugene born 1871 [he could be a twin of Owen or is actually Owen]
May born ??? died 1896 States

Margaret born 1864 died 1952 States married Barnard & Barnshaw
Theresa born 1875 died 1953 married McAleavey
Bernard born 1873

If the information is correct, then Mary would need to get the death certs for the ones that died in the states.

Think I'd best go to my bed....!!

Have just been chasing the Christy/Falls connection... and now we have some Campbells in the mix...!!!

The Falls family who Eliz Christy married into were from Six Mile Bridge....They started going out in abt 1896...mother Mary Falls (nee Campbell)...living 59th St. Mary was a Widow when she went out with some of the Family 1896 on "The Ethiopia" out of Moville but again no address for either Co Tyrone /NY on Manifest.

I cannot get sorted with the Christy's need to look again later.....!

Mary I am more confused than ever,,,,
According to 1900 Census (above) Theresa was b NY Pat.b NY (Aug 1891)...but shipping Manifest gives pob as Co Tyrone...!

Have double and triple cross checked and it is the family of James Joseph.

Eringobragh1916 Report 8 Feb 2013 08:46

Mary..."Ambran na bhFian" (A Soldiers Song) keeps running through ma head on this one but at least I know that part of me is still fuctioning...just..!!

Right..the story so far about the relatives you've never heard of...

James Joseph Christy 14 was living with his Aunt Anne Christy (1901)...later in that year he went with his father Patrick Christy to NY to his mother on Amsterdam Ave.
Patrick Christy appears to be possibly the ? brother of Thomas Christy (RIP) who was the husband of Margaret Hamil....
Aunt Anne Christy was down as not married so may have well have been their sister...or even a great aunt given her age...

Patrick Christy married Mary Ann Donnelly in 1877 Dungannon.
Mary Ann Donnelly Christy travelled out to NY with some of their children 1893.
Birth of eldest daughter Eliz.

Patrick Christy, Mary Ann Donnelly Christy
name :Elizabeth Christy
birth date :21 Sep 1879
birthplace :*Sarnnamore,* Tyrone, Ireland

(No such place...guessing it should be Tamlaghtmore/Tamnamore)

So what has happened is we seem to have inadvertantly gone back a generation.....

Mary

Mary Report 8 Feb 2013 05:12

EGB, you are too too funny! More relatives I've never heard of.. .lol. All these people between me and that 45 pound estate my gg grandmother left... guess I'll have to keep my job.

Eringobragh1916

Eringobragh1916 Report 7 Feb 2013 20:23

Mary...Have tracked down the family with JJ (1920) Census...

The children travelled out from Derry 16Oct.1893 on the Cicassia going to NY..no address for either there or Co. Tyrone.on manifest...thats a nusiance...!

Mary A.Christy Mother 40yrs. b Tyrone
Elizabeth Christy 14. Tyrone
Teresa Christy 5 Tyrone
Patrick Christy 2 Tyrone

So I now havent a clue where we are at except for the fact these "children" were listed with James Joseph 1920..(havent access to actually read relationships on Census)

EDIT...Just realised the 1920 Census will be that of their sister "Elizabeth Christy"...she must have married a married Patrick Falls...doh...!!
