Trying to locate Farquhar Mcrae born 10 June 1841 Petty Inverness..His parents were Donald Mcrae and mary McDonald.. There was also another son John Mcrae born c1837 Petty Inverness...There appears to be more than one Farquar and John with parents Donald and Mary so I'm getting quiet annoyed..My Donald Mcrae is listed as "shepherd" and is on the 1841 census aged 45 but on the 1851 he is 70??? not sure if this is an error as his wife age is consistant, so is Farquhar who is aged 1 and 10...Any ideas?? |

The age difference could simply be mistranscription.....to check, get credits for Scotlands People and look at the images |

Beverley, Petty, Croy and Dalcross is in the next parish to Daviot and Dunlichity so there are quite a few miles between them. |

The ages for Mary 45 Mary aged 15 and Farquhar 10 on the 1851 census sound right, but Donald is 25 years older than his 45 in 1841, its quiet a huge error to make??? |

It is a big error but I have seen a lot of errors made in the transcripts. Sometimes the enumerator has scored lines through the census and if it goes through someone's age it makes it very difficult to read. |

Purchased the original image for 1851 census, although its very faint, it clearly states Donalds age as 70 :-S Cantg understand why there were only 3 children, in those days it was common to have at least 6?? |

It may have been a second marriage for both of them. The only birth coming up on Familysearch with both of them as parents is Farquhar's. Mary and John's birth aren't there with both those parents. Also some children may have died and not appeared on the census records. |
