I'm trying to find Doris May Lock, born in 1902. She married Albert Lewis Boneham in 1945. Prior to that, she married and lost her first husband in WW2. Possible surname of Witcomb, but cannot find any info on this. Something in the back of my mind thought first husband was an Edwards.
Can someone please help?
Thanks.

According to this she wasn't married before or she would have her married surname.

Did she have any children by this first relationship?

Yes, three children, my father-in-law's step siblings. My father in law's birth certificate says that his mother's name was Witcomb.

So surely her birth would be as Witcomb?

England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915
Name: Doris May Witcomb
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1907
Registration district: Warwick
Inferred County: Warwickshire

She married Albert Boneham after the death of her first husband, so on her marriage certificate to Albert, surely it would be Witcomb?

Albert definitely married a Doris May Lock.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 5 Jan 2013 20:08

TBA - No, the name should be her last married name.

YES! Albert married her as Lock but that's because it's what she was then, not what she was born as.

Unless someone reverts to their maiden name, say after a divorce, you always remarry in your current married name.

There are 3 Edwards/Lock children following that marriage dating up to 1945 so probably unlikely. ( though I suppose it is possible the last one was the new husband's child but before marriage? )

see Freebmd .

Yes, that is her death. She died a month before I met my husband, and sadly didn't get to meet her, as I believe she was a lovely lady.
