Just in case it's of any relevance, on the 1837 marriage above Holebrook Davis was recorded as a widower of Burnley, Lancs.

The witnesses were Hannah Maria Harwood and Robert Harwood.

Hello Gerard, marriage records in England don't give details of the bride and groom's mothers (well, except on some very rare occasions when I've seen the mother's name given in place of a father when the person marrying is illegitimate).

The marriage record does state that William Henry Davis was a Lieutenant in the army.

The Coventry Herald on 10 November 1837 actually carried a notice of the marriage - their version is slightly different to the info on the marriage record:

"On the 28th ult., at Liverpool, Holbrooks davis, Esq., merchant of Dublin to Ann, third daughter of Robert Horwood, Esq., late of Birmingham"

(On the actual marriage record Holbrook is a widowed tailor and draper of Burnley. Ann's father Robert was a book-keeper).

If Dublin is correct then it's starting the Irish connection ......
