Thankyou Reggie, Sadly if he was buried at sea or in Pondicherry there probably won't be a death certificate. My hope is that when the ships returned they had to list the cause of death etc. My son lives in Hyderabad India and said he would go to Pondicherry if more information on his death became av ailable. Many thanks for your reply

You only get the extra details if you look at the image Reggie. I'm using Findmypast. Not sure where Mary has got this information from.

The deaths are registered and classified by cause of death. At the top of the page that has John Robert Wilson listed it says "Diseases of the Brain and Nervous System"

It says he was 47 and his occupation a Steward. Travelling from Cardiff to Pondicherry.

I would hazard a guess that it may have been some form of sunstroke.

COULD ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME LOCATE DETAILS OF SS SILVERDALE REGISTERED IN NEWCASTLE, SHIP OWNER EDWARD MILBURN. . HAVE JUST DISCOVERED MY GR. GRANDFATHER DIED ON THIS SHIP IN PONDICHERRY 31 MAY 1882. WOULD LOVE TO KNOW HOW HE DIED ETC. HAVE SPENT MANY HOURS SEARCHING WEBSITES TO NO AVAIL. MANY THANKS MARY SPENCER
