Further to Cecil Gordon 'Kennedy' Sladen - Kennedy was assumed. Thank you for your replies. Cecil was my grandfather but I can only remember meeting him once, Nellie Thorn my grandmother was his second wife. I am trying to flesh out the huge gaps in his life which was - shall we say eventful? He married in 1901 - we believe he ran off with a maid and lived in New York where he had a son. Divorced in 1917 Married Nellie in 1918 divorced sometime early 30's (another maid getting pregnant I'm afraid). Married again - who? He had a commission in the RA which he resigned - did he go abroad - some mention of China & India. He came back and enlisted in the RAOD in 1914 He was trained as an engineer and there are some patents logged in his name He also discovered Christian Spiritualism in later life. A bit of character to say the least any thing would be of interest thanks Trevor

More on his divorce .....
The Liverpool Echo 15 Oct 1915 reports on Lilian's application for restitution of conjugal rights.
They married 11 April 1901 in Kensington and then went to live Seaforth near Liverpool. Cecil resigned his commission with the Royal Artillery and in 1914 took a commission with the Army Ordance dept. Lilian went to live with her mother in London and Cecil was in Chatham. She visited him several times but he wouldn't provide a home for her. He told her to stop visiting him and he didn't want to be with her anymore.
The judge awarded restitution to Lilian, to be obeyed within 14 days.
