Find Ancestors

Hi all

Hoping sks can help me find anything about the parents and/or siblings of this fellow. He has been a brick wall for a while, just can't get further back.

From another tree online i have his birthdate as 23/5/1850 Angus, Scotland but no further replies/contact have been forthcoming.

HIs death notice said for New Zealand papers to copy, but have no idea what his connection is there. He married in South Australia in 1880.

I have details of his marriage and children, wife's family etc, just stuck on him! :)

His son Percy was my stepdad's grandfather.

EDIT: His father is George and his mother's mn is BOYD.

So his father was George...if young Boyd's middle name was George that might add credence to the theory!

Yes you're right he should be born in 1848 or 49...wish I knew what the source was. Maybe that was his christening/baptism date in 1850?

A Boyd G WYLLIE died in Yorkshire in 1967? Sadly no one on GR has him in theor tree.

Might order Wm's death cert, Vic certs are much cheaper than SA ones. In any case an 1880 marriage won't give mother's name or place of birth.

Can't find online what info the Vic one will have but hopefully more than the cd does! That does say his mother's mn was BOYD...

There is a story in various SA Newspapers in 1887 re W.B Wyllie and his father in law William Trevena.
These articles do confirm that they were dairy farmers who established the first Cheese Factory in The District of Light

This also states that WB Wyllie had links to New Zealand & NSW but confirms he was a Scotty

'Fraid Boyd in 1891 does not have George as a middle name.

I have looked at every possible version of William Boyd Wyllie on Scotlands People.

There were no Wyllies ( or variants) with father George and mother with maiden name Boyd, baptised anywhere in Scotland between 1820 and 1854.

Hmmm GlasgowLass that missing birth/baptism is very odd isn't it? He really is a bit of an enigma this one! Will get the cert today and see what it says.

Just a thought Alviegal - wonder if Gilmour was his mother's (or maternal grandmother's) maiden name? :)

Just downloaded the death cert of Wm Boyd WYLLIE. Nothing new except that he died of senile debility and heart failure (14 days) and that he is buried at Burwood Cemetery. Father George Wyllie's occupation shown as 'unknown'.

Birthplace just says 'Scotland'. States he lived in Victoria for 28 years and SA for 23 years. Nothing about NSW. I haven't been able to find his arrival in SA so perhaps he came via NZ?

PS Just found another article at NLA Trove where William was interviewed about his dairy cows and he says "On the old home farm in Scotland my father never reared a calf that he had to reject as a milker.." so his dad was also a dairy farmer???

Can't see him in NZ papers...unfortunately there was a Sir Wm Wyllie murdered in 1909 who clutters up the results, poor chap!

There was a John WYLLIE who had a dairy at Saltwater Creek (later at Sefton) and made (and exported) cheese...but he was born at Ayrshire in 1828 so a fair bit older than Wm.

I have sent an email to someone who has him in their online tree so will keep my fingers crossed.

Clutching at straws here. Was looking at a William born Mauchline, Ayrshire c 1850 who disappeared before 1871. His father was a farmer BUT he was called Hugh. This may be him but there is no other info.

Wlliam Wyllie was born 12 Mar 1851 and baptized in Mauchline Ayrshire on 23 Mar 1851
Hs parents were Hugh Wyllie and Christina Allison
They also had a son called George

Oh Oh.
Just realised that they were still in Ayrshire at 1873. Birth of a daughter!
Son William would be 22yrs old at this time and if he travelled with his family, it
gives only 3yrs to get from Ayrshire to NZ to NSW,

Got an email back but all he knew is that the birthdate comes from a book about the Trevena family by a family researcher. Very distant connection for him.

Have tried sending an email to another researcher but no reply yet.

Have found a contact number for the author of the book so might have to pluck up the courage to call him in SA (lucky I have VOIP!)
