Can anyone help?
Im trying to find the parents of a William Hughes born in Nottingham in 1884/5....married a Emily Clarke in Nottinghamshire in 1902-04.
Can anyone look at earlier census's?

Oooooo - thankyou Dea!!!

Funnily enough, William Hughes in 1911 might have been a greengrocer - but I know for a fact that the hughes family in the 1930s were undertakers in Radford Nottingham - so clearly follwed his father Samuels footsteps!!
Just now need to look up where Salop is?

Salop is another name for Shropshire.

Oh my word.... one surviving child! From what I heard I dont think Samuel lived too long a life either........however his wife Emily did!!

Any idea how I can find Samuels wife Marys maiden name?

I have been looking for the marriage but can't find one which fits !!!

Neither can I find the family on 1891 census !

I don't like to be beaten so I will keep looking ;-)

I am wondering if they did, in fact marry or whether they married later than they said and William was born before the marriage ?

It wouldnt surprise me if they did marry later than the children were born as I have found in my other marriage records - including very recent ancestors!!

Was the marriage - william hughes and Mary Chidlow in shropshire or Nottingham?

The registration district is 'Wem' which is ib Shropshire !

I would still like to find them all on 1891 though ...........

Probate Records for Samuel:

died 12 November 1913. Administration (with Will) Nottingham
15th December to Mary Hughes widow.
Effects £505 15s 6d.

There was a Will so you might want to get a copy of this - you could probably download this from National Archives site for about £3.50.

I am absolutely terrible at using that site so if you are interested perhaps someone else will guide you through how to find it - just ask on here!
