Yes it looks like he was with Sarah and then Elizabeth. I think they both called theirs sons Francis just to complicate things. Also his father John Bovey married a Sarah Jeboult. Now to see if i can find Johns father.

I should have gone to Specsavers................completely overlooked the father's forename on the baptism

I am going to try to piece all this information together. I was wondering if he had married twice or moved on and had an extended family.
I will gather all the info I have and see if I can make heads or tails of it.
the problem is so many Francis's.

On the actual image the wife is listed as Mrs. Bovey married 36 years, 6 children born 4 living, 2 had died. The names of the living children have been listed then crossed out. Also a Grandson named Ernest Payne, aged 5. Mrs. Bovey's birthplace is listed a CHATHAM, KENT - same place as Sarah's on earlier census!

Apart from the father's name Reggie!

My 'take' on it is that he was married to Sarah, but at some stage after 1881 census, he left her, and took up with Eliza(beth) , with whom he fathered more children.

The baptism matches the info from the birth cert in Lesley's possession.

many thanks for all your replies. I have my granddads birth certificate (Samuel Bovey born 28 April 1887) His father is Francis Bovey (waterside labourer) and his mother is Eliza Bovey formerly Harrison living at 7 Dobbs Cross.
Also the John Bovey (Taylor) I found is married to Susan Mary Adams. Married in Ipplepen devon.
