Hannah Trinder in Abingdon workhouse

Thank you so much, everyone, for all your very kind research on my behalf. I seem to have got very muddled. Hannah Trinder is on the 1841 census with her son, Jesse, living with her parents, Joseph and Martha Trinder, along with her brother, Jonathon, in Abingdon, Berkshire. By 1851, she was a slopworker (a maker of cheap ready-to-wear clothing) she by then had a daughter, Selina Panting Trinder, who was aged three years in 1851; Jesse by then was 11 years old. Hannah went on to marry William Panting, a railway foreman by 1861. They married in 1854 in Abingdon in Berkshire. So, from this, Hannah never was in a workhouse. This all ties in with what I have found about the family in latter years. Jesse became a tailor in Regents Street, London, where my Great Grandmother was born. His son became a master cutter in the tailoring trade in York. My apologies to you all and thank you again for helping me to untie the mess I had got my tree into.

Not necessarily the same Hannah Trinder.

Berkshire Chronicle 03/08/33 (This one cant be her if she was born c1827 but perhaps fits in somewhere).

On Monday last an amorous pair, viz. Thomas Wells a rag merchant and widower and Hannah Trinder, a venerable spinster, both of Abingdon, whose united ages amounted to 130 years were married at St Ebb's church Oxford, to which edifice it is presumed they repaired to hide the modest blushes which might otherwise have been exposed to vulgar gaze at St Helens church. Some 40 or 50 years ago Miss Trinder was a female of considerable notoriety.

Berkshire Chronicle 11/06/1842 (right age)

(This is a long entry and I can't C & P it so basically)

Hannah Trinder about 16 years old charged with obyaining goods on false pretences to the calue of 8 or 9 shillings from a drapers store in Abingdon. Hannah stated that she had been sent by Miss Woodbridge and the items were given to her. She returned a second time for more goods and was again given them. Later checking with Miss Woodbridge this was proved to be untrue.
When charged she said nothing in her defence and was commited to take her trial for both offences at the ensuing quarter sessions.

Berkshire Chronicle 09/07/1942 (following on from the above)

Hannah Trinder was charged with obtaining by false pretences 2 bonnets and other articles the property of John Hyde the elder and John Hyde the younger. Pleaded guilty, sentence 6 months omprisionment to hard labour, and to be kept in solitary confinement the first two and last two days of such period.

There is also this 11/06/1842

Well, according to the workhouse transcript there is no Hannah there in 1841-

There is a family tree elsewhere but would consider it suspect as Hannah is recorded in both London and Abingdon on the 1851. The 1841 census records her born in 1824 but owner has changed that to 1826

Thanks Pam but it can't be the one OP is talking about because 'that' Hannah is not 15 and in the Workhouse with her son and daughter??

We really need OP to return and post the census she has seen.

Thanks,

Relationships are not shown on the 1841, so the younger children could be her siblings. Could you post the 1841 that you have please as I can't find her.

I am trying to add some meat to the bones of my tree. I have found that my Great (x3) Grandmother was in Abingdon Workhouse on the 1841 census. She was just 15 years old and is with her son and daughter, but no other member of her family. Does anyone know how to find more details about this? Thank you.
