Death in Oxfordshire

After lots of very helpful suggestions, and much appreciated guidance, I have been able to trace a great uncle, who I feared had completely vanished, to a village in Oxfordshire. It seems my great uncle ARTHUR HEVINGHAM died at 29 Sandford Road, in Littlemore, Oxfordshire on the 7th April 1983, being a retired groom. His death was reported by a James Francis William Vincent, who lived at 29 Samphire Road. Does anyone know of this man, or anything about his connection to my great uncle. Anyone with any information would be a bonus.

Can only suggest a look at the electoral rolls for 1983 which should be at the main library for the area

Hi Jan, the strange thing is, in the section next to name and address of informant, it says "(b) Qualification" and in that box it reads - causing tghe body to be cremated - nothing more. I will have to pay a visit to the library in Oxford to see the electoral register, but that will have to wait as I live in Staffordshire. I am going on holiday to Dorset next month, so might take a detour and call in then.

Hi MarieCelest, the answer to your question "connected" is yes, that was the problem I was having at the time, and this is the stage I am at now, people are so fantastically helpful, now I want to know more.......

The informant on a death cert is not necessarily in any way 'connected' to the deceased, although the wording suggests some sort of legal tie-up.

On what date was the death registered?

Hi Reggie, the date of registration of the death is 11th April 1983

So, no delay for an inquest, which means the informant wasn't the Coroner

He may possibly have been the man's Executor..............

The Electoral Roll is not likely to be of any use..............it won't even tell you Mr Vincent's age

Hi, it now seems that his funeral took place on the 13th April, so you are right, there does not seem to have been much delay, so there could not have been an inquest. Thank you

To answer the question you asked on your most recent thread, the ER would be the place to look
