Find Ancestors

Hi, my great grand uncle, full name William George Pritchard Bryant was born in 1854 in Rochester, Kent. His father was John Wheeler (Weeler) Bryant and mother Sarah Bryant nee Fry. I can find nothing on William beyond the 1861 Census for him when he is shown as living with his mother and siblings in Kent. Father, John, is not shown on this Census.

Is anyone please able to assist in seeing if they can find anything farther on William?

Hiya, thank you for the information provided. I see on the 1881 Census it shows William as being married although the only name showing as well on the Census is Emily who is a lodger. Am not too sure at the moment about the 1871 Census as the George Bryant showing doesn't fit with the family I have around that time.

Thank you all for your time and help. There are so many William Bryant's, if only they gave William's full name or at least his middle initials it would make it easier for researching him.

Sarah Packman and the two Bryant boys are a separate household to the Rodneys. John Wheeler Bryant seems to have died in 1864 so possibly Sarah remarried (she is shown as wife on the image). The younger Bryant boy is shown as her grandson.

There is a possible marriage for a Sarah Bryant to a George Packman, but it is after the 1871 census:

The marriage of George Packman and Sarah Bryant, is on Medway City Ark.


July 2nd 1871 at Hoo St. Werbergh

George Packman - age 40 - bachelor - sailor - father George (labourer)

Sarah Bryant - age 53 - widow - father James (bricklayer).

Good morning all,

I now have William's birth certificate which shows that he was born on 6 June 1854 at Five Bells Lane, St Margaret, Rochester, Kent. I am still searching for his death to no avail. Is there anyone who can assist in my continued search for his death please? As ever, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. We'll keep this one in mind although it says born 1851 but we know how transcriptions were not so good at times when it comes to years of birth/age etc.

I've spent hours and hours on this one, leaving it alone for a while then coming back to it. That's why in the end I sent off for his birth certificate in the hope that the exact birth date might yield something but, as yet, still no joy.

This states that William is married but the lady, Emily, is given as being a lodger/charwoman and unmarried. So who is William's wife?

It is now stating again that William is married but his wife is Eliza some 10 years younger than him. It shows Eliza as being born in Sittingbourne. I have tried to search for a marriage for William with someone called Eliza but can't find it. As before, not 100% sure this is my William though. The mystery continues.
