She was a cook in a hotel I Macclesfield until she retired. She died in a care home in Manchester around1980 in Manchester. She had a sister called Florence and a daughter called Lillian or lily. I understand she was never married. If anyone can give me any info on her I would be very grateful.

Your info about Lilian's place of death could be inaccurate........how close to the lady was the person who gave you the info?

Thankyou all for your help and I will sift through it. Lily Astbury was the mother of my husbands adopted mother in other words his adopted grandmother. He knows she died around 1980 give or take but as she was in a nursing home in Manchester when she died he expected her death to registered in Manchester not Oldham, but who knows.

I'm puzzled that there appears in your post to be uncertainty about her name...........

The details of the informant on the death cert may prove helpful..........and it would, of course tell you the deceased's last address, and if known, her exact DOB and birthplace...............also marital status.

Yes the daughter adopted my husband and the uncertainty re her name was because her mother used to call her alma because , so the story goes. someone else registered the birth and registered her as Liy or Lillian after her mother, if that makes sense. My husband fell out with his adopted parents but he was very fond of his adopted gran Lily Astbury and saw her just before she died but would like to know more of her life.
I guess I will have to send for his grandmothers death cert.

What was the name of your husband's adoptive father?

My husbands adopted father was Yun kun Yue. and their marriage was in Liverpool in the last qyart of 1947
