Their daughter Agnes Scott Crow was my gr. grandmother who married Joseph Petrie. I have been unable to find James or Jane`s birth certificates to get their parents names. Can anyone help? Thank you

Based on the info found on Family Search , this ais the family of James Crow and Jane/Jean Strachan who married in Montrose, Angus on 7 Dec 1823.
It looks as if they had a family of daughters and no sons.

As Jane was still living at 1871, there will be a statutory death record which should confirm the names of both parents.

pre 1855, there were no birth records kept.
If you are fortunate, there may be a record of a baptism.
Odd?
All the children born to James and Jane can be found of FS showing only their DOB which must have come from their baptisms, yet, not one of them has a baptismal date showing ???

So you have Smith, Scott and Greig as possible family surnames.

Civil Registration didn't come into force in Scotland until 1855..........so you will not be able to get certs.......only baptism records

Thanks. I really appreciate all this. I have managed to get a lot of info.now . Jane Crow (Strachan) died in 1871 aged 70 Mother was Mary Burns and Father was Charles Strachan . Spouse James Crow Sailmaker. Now I can start getting some B and D certificates. Thanks again.
