	ArgyllGran if it is not too much of a cheek to ask..is it possible to find Samuel Lindsay born 1859 page 596 vol 1d..Last census 1881 Alexander Lindsay (think he was born Patrick A) his mother appears to have mixed up their ages on the 1881 census! Havent been able to find them since. Did either marry? Thank you Rose

Really does show how names were distorted, no wonder some can never be found!! 	Depends who the informant was, Rose, and whether they knew the spelling of her birth name. Or maybe the registrar's idea of how it should be spelled.

Member Since: July 2005 Posts: 10,504 Send Message	Alexander and Mary appear to have married in Greenwich RD and the other 2 children's births registered there. I cannot see an Elinor/Eleanor Lindsay in the 1861 census nor a death between 1855 and 1861. So I would suspect the Elinor birth. If you order the certificate for Elinor from GRO and say you don't know the reference number then there is the option to complete parents details. If incorrect then the certificate will not be despatched to you and your money will be refunded I believe. Can't see her in 1871 census
