I am helping a neighbour who has just started to research her family history. We have a hiccup with this chap and would appreciate some help please. He was her GG Grandfather.

We believe this to be his birth reg:

Births Dec 1841
Prodger Samuel Eastbourne 7 300

We cannot see him on the 1851 Census (but we have all subsequent census plus marriage and death).

Can anyone else spot him? Or find a baptism please?

Many Thanks

Thelma

Is this the family, you didn't give us any other clues to help our search!

Ancestry has the name as Proogea which has a correction to Prodger. This is the FMP version

Hi Stuart

We couldn't give you any other clues because Samuel was born after the 1841 Census and had left home by the 1861 Census. That's why we needed to find him in 1851 to find out who his parents were!

Thanks x

Thanks for all the extra info folks.

I am having problems with family search at the moment (it says it cannot support my browser and I have to update it). Which I will do when I figure out how to do it!

In the meantime, can anyone find a marriage for Edward & Mary Ann please? Or a baptism for Edward c1800 in Eastbourne?

Thankyou

Christine

Christine Report 27 Mar 2014 14:35

Sorry Stuart! I have just noticed the 1861 Census that safc posted and see that Samuel is with his family. I think I got him mixed up with his son Harry Croydon Prodger!

Hi Christine. This is really interesting. I'm a Croydon prodger and I've always wondered where the Croydon bit comes from. Harry Croydon is the oldest I've found with this name.

My branch of. The family was moved from Eastbourne during the war. My dad found some of our family 45 years ago and found his grandfather But can't actually remember his name. Useless! I wonder if your neighbour is a relative and if you are able to help me at all in my search?

James

Hello James, welcome to the community boards. It's lucky that the thread you've found is a very recent one - often people stumble across ones that are years old where the posters may no longer be members, at least we know Christine is around.

You could click on her name to send a direct message with the details you have of your family and she may be able to connect you to her neighbour.

Hi James

I believe my neighbours family was also evacuated during the war and ended up in Gloucestershire.

Her grandparents were Albert Croydon Prodger and Freda V Stevens. All their sons carried the Croydon middle name.

If there is a connection perhaps you could contact me off board as I obviously need to speak to my neighbour before sharing any other info!

Kind Regards
Christine
