Jack Report 17 Dec 2014 03:53

Hi everyone,

I have just found an inference to my great uncle after a number of years looking. His name is James Steele , he was born in 1843 if not in Leslie Fife then Inverkeithing Fife.
He is supposed to have died in 1903 at a poor house in Hamilton Scotland, He would have been 61.. I have found that he had a wife or companion named Jane Falconer, ( cant find a marriage ) she is reported to be a widow at his death so she must have been alive at the time. His father was James Steele and his mother was Isabella.

Any help finding out more about James jr. would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Jack Steele

If it's a marriage then that would be on Scotlands People website which is a pay site

Have you found him on any census ?

Do you have the death cert? I imagine not, as your info about his death is rather vague

You say James was your great uncle. Which of his siblings was your grandparent?

Or should he be referred to as a great, great uncle, in view of his year of birth?

Is this a different John to the one I posted above? He appears to have married a Margaret, possibly Green, and his father is John not James.

Jack Report 17 Dec 2014 15:39

Hi all you amazing genealogy people.

Thank you for your efforts. I do appreciate it. I see that the James Steele who died in the poor house in Hamilton was not related to me. So onward goes the search for him. I have a copy of the page of the 1851 census showing the 2 boys living in Inverkeithing with a Mrs Moudie. Thank you for the information on the 1861 census but I wonder where James went but I would guess that at 18 years of age he would be out in the world.
Re the brother John, I have all the information on him including a picture of him and yes he was a blacksmith.
And yes his first wife Margaret Green died of TB at 28 years of age, she 3 children all had problems, mostly to do with pulmonary problems.
His 2nd wife Isabella had children one of which was my grandfather George who I knew well. He is buried in The prospect Cemetery in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Thank you again.

Cheers,

Jack Steele
