Hi
I would appreciate any help anyone can give, I am looking for any relatives of Jack Car, he was a bus driver in 1942/3 for a bus company in sheffield and at that time he lived in the millhouses area of sheffield. It is a really sad story and we are desparate to find anyone who is related to him
thank you

Hi Pauline.
Although worth a try, chances of anyone who knows about Jack seeing your query are pretty slim.
Folks on here will try to help if they can.
It might help if you tell us any thing else you know. Such as his age, when he was last seen, any family names you know.
Are you sure his name was Jack? Or could it have been short for John?

Pauline with the information you have, anything we post will be guess work. If you don't have an exact age then you could try writing to bus companies in Sheffield to see if they still hold their employee records. Doubt they will give you the info but they may be willing to pass a letter on.

Hi
Thank you for the replys, I think Jack would have been born around 1916-1919 ,
if he married it would have been after 1943. I have wrote to the last bus company he worked for but have had no answer, It is a delicate sittuation and I don't know how much information to put on as I would'nt want to upset anyone.

Connected to your man? Maybe worth contacting these people through the Sheffield forum.

"Hi Gritman, good to hear from you.

The Tool Room, Jack Carr's place, I remember that well, it was on your way to the canteen. Yes it was a fairly happy place to work particularly before the Take Overs, you were a name and not just a number in those days which counted for a lot.
I used to live not too far from Jack, he lived up near to Graves Park whilst I was at Meersbrook and went to his local (The Mount Pleasant) on a few occasions."

Stands a chance this is also your man:

The Jack Carr in the link below was a conductor in the Union Brass Band- joining in the 1960s, and had previously been a member of the Sheffield Transport Band. Jack died in 1968- although it doesn't say where.

If he died in Sheffield in 1968, and was born (1916 to 1919) slightly outside those estimated dates, then this might be him

Deaths June quarter 1968
CARR JONATHAN 55 SHEFFIELD 2D 136

which could fit with this birth:
Births March 1913
Carr Jonathan Hodkinson Ecclesall B. 9c 970

But there is a possible marriage for him at a young age in 1931, so not your man?
