I am trying to follow the census that I located for the following family that is the 1871 1861 1851 1891 1901. I have the following details of the 1881 welsh census for

I cant see a reason why Robert Roberts is the father of Robert Evans Jane Evans and Elizabeth Roberts.
Hope that someone may put light on the census.
The person I am trying to follow is Robert Evans b 1875 Llangybi Caernarvonshire.
Kind Regards Allan and Kay P

Hello Allan, strictly speaking there is nowhere where it says he is their father. Their relationship is given to the head of the household - Catherine.

This transcription is a little clearer:

PricklyHolly Report 20 May 2015 08:21

It doesn't state that Robert Roberts is the father of the Evans children.

He is Unmarried.

If this is him in 1891...........he is still "Single"

I've just realised that Allan may be referring to the erroneous relationships that Ancestry transcriptions often give to grandchildren. That is the case in this instance.

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 20 May 2015 08:31

Not sure how it's erroneous

The children are recorded, presumably quite correctly, as the grandchildren of Catherine Roberts

FMP has exactly the same info

1881 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
Rhydlyniog, Denio, Pwllheli, Caernarvonshire, Wales

First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Gender Age Birth year Occupation Birth place
Catherine Roberts Wife Head Married Female 62 1819 Farm Labourers Wife Bryncroes, Caernarvonshire, Wales Transcription
Ellen Roberts Daughter Single Female 34 1847 Charwoman Denio, Caernarvonshire, Wales Transcription
Robert Roberts Son Single Male 32 1849 Farmer Denio, Caernarvonshire, Wales Transcription
Wiliam Evans Grand Son Single Male 9 1872 Scholar Denio, Caernarvonshire, Wales Transcription
Robert Evans Grand Son Single Male 6 1875 Scholar Llangybi, Caernarvonshire, Wales Transcription
Jane Roberts Grand Daughter Single Female 3 1878 - Caernarvonshire, Wales Transcription
Elizabeth Roberts Grand Daughter Single Female 3 1878 - Caernarvonshire, Wales Transcr

I'm afraid that Allan has misinterpreted the info, probably as a result of not noticing that Robert Roberts is SINGLE

The Evans boys would logically be the children of a female Roberts child who married an Evans

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 20 May 2015 09:07

Jacqueline, it's erroneous in this way:

1881 Wales Census (Ancestry version)
Name: Robert Evans
Age: 6
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1875
Relation: Grandson
Father's name: Robert Roberts <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Gender: Male
Where born: Llangybi, Caernarvonshire, Wales
Civil Parish: Denio
County/Island: Caernarvonshire
Country: Wales
Street address: Rhydlyniog

(The same erroneous relationship has been given for all of Catherine's grandchildren)

Note I said ANCESTRY transcriptions, not FindMyPast (which was what I'd already posted)

EDIT: Rather rude of you to say Allan has misinterpreted the information which Ancestry has clearly (but wrongly) stated.

Allan

Allan Report 20 May 2015 09:12

Thank you Jacqueline, MarieCeleste and PricklyHolly for the census records. I did misread the 1881 and 1871 census. Thank you for clearing up my oversight that Robert Roberts was the father of Robert Evans and William Evans I did not notice that he was single..,
The 1861 and 1851 census may throw light onto other children of Catherine Roberts b 1819 Bryncroes Caernarvonshire. :-0

Not rude at all..........come off the high horse Marie

Misinterpretation is easy to do, and Allan has quite readily said he didn't notice the man was single

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 20 May 2015 11:47

Me? High horse? Certainly not Jacqueline! Feet are firmly on the ground. ;-)

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 20 May 2015 12:53

That's OK then.... ;-)

I don't think Allan subscribes to Ancestry, or he wouldn't be asking for lookups............would he?

Not sure of the source of the 1881 he posted...........it wasn't the FREE familysearch, as this is its layout

Thank you Jacqueline, Chris Ho for the 1851 census, baptism and marriage records of Robert Roberts and Catherine Evans.
Yes they are all belong to the same family so now will send away for the birth cert of Robert Evans b 1875 grandson of Catherine Roberts nee Evans and hope that I have located my Robert William Evans b 1875 North Wales. No I am not a member of Ancestry or Fine my Past but not having any knowledge of Wales and its counties it is very difficult to research a family. Once again Thank you to all that has helped me with my research :-)
