I hadn't realised that it was not on FreeBMD.

You can order from Yorkshire local Register Office - you should find this on link below:

http://www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk/

Just follow instructions from there.

I seem to remember these are usually around the same price as from GRO (give or take a few pence).

Let us know on here if you have any problems.

Thanks Ginns - I was looking for that on-line :-S Where did you find it ?

Well, it doesn't seem to be the one then as the father is wrong :-( but strange though as they live in the same place as on later census's and Martha Anderson is a brush maker also ???

They must at the very least be related but I wonder if Jonathan has been proved to be Joseph's brother or maybe he is a cousin ??? They would then have different fathers?

Thanks Dea and Gins. Its beginning to look like I have the top of my tree wrong. Perhaps Jonathan and Joseph were not brothers. That would explain the age gap. Jonathan's dad was Joseph a cloth dresser. I have got that from his marriage cert. As for Jonathan and Joseph b 1819 being brothers well I can't prove that. Perhaps I will have to have a rethink on all this.

Thanks for your help

Jane.

let me try something else. Please could someone see if they can find William Arthur Thornhill on the 1861 census. He was on the 1851 census staying with Jonathan Rushworth. Hopefully I will be able to find out who his parents were. He was born 1849 in Leeds. Also how was he related to Jonathan?

Thanks for your help

Thanks Chris. I'm not sure if the family you found are linked in anyway but then I'm not sure of anything at the moment.

Please can someone fill in the details on this person. The reason I ask is that Jonathan Rushworth is down as Rushforth on 1861 and on one of the census his place of Birth was Gildersome Yorkshire. Joseph's ?brother was born in 1819 so could this be him.

Was Jonathans name actually Rushforth not rushworth???

Joseph Rushforth

England and Wales Census, 1861

Name Joseph Rushforth
County Yorkshire (West Riding)
Event Type Census
Event Date 1861
Sub-District 2 Kirkstall
Parish Headingley Leeds
Ecclesiastical Parish Horsforth Woodside
Registration District Hunslet
Age 42
Gender Male
Relationship to Head of Household Head
Birthplace Gildersome, Yorkshire
Schedule Type Household

Thanks for helping me

Hi Chris

I think that the family you found on the 1841 is my family. I*'m not sure if that Joseph who married Eliza Anderson is my family. I think I am going to have to sit down and study all this information before I get myself totally confused.

Thanks

Jane

Right then, - I think we are getting into an awful muddle here so let's get a few things straight. ;-)

I presume that you have some proof that you have worked back correctly from yourself to the Rushworths ?

Which one of the two (Joseph or Jonathan) are you 'directly' connected to and how have you worked back to them?

As you have no proof that Joseph and Jonathan are brothers, I should discount that for now and concentrate only on your 'direct' ancestor. Once you get that straight you can always come back to the other and see if they connect.

This Rusworth family are causing me quite a few problems.
I have Jonathan b 1826 on the 1861 living in 3 West Leed
There is also a Jospeh born 1819 in that area
There is also a Joseph ? dad living in that area. So are these brother and dad??

IN Kirkstall
I have a Joseph b1819 and a Joseph (born about the right time for dad) and this Thornhill family living in that area. So are these my family.?

Thanks for your help

You really need to tell us who you have worked your way back to - Jonathan or Joseph ?

Dea x

Jane Report 31 Oct 2015 10:37

Jonathan is my direct line on my Dads side.

Charles Gray is my grandad He married Elizabeth Rushworth on 18/04/1927 Leeds (Marriage cert )

Elizabeth Rushworth Dad was William Rushworth b c1863 her Mum was Sarah Ann South. (Elizabeths Birth cert) She was living at 7 Stanhope Terrace. At time of Marriage William and Sarah were living at Roscoe Terrace Sheepscar Leeds. (Marriage Cert) Marriage Oct 1890.

The marriage cert for William And Sarah gives Williams father as Jonathan Rushworth a Cloth dresser.

JOnathan Rushworth Marriage in 1850 to Elizabeth Faubert They were living in Mabgate Leeds. Jonathan was a Cloth dresser and aged 24 and his father ws Joseph Rushworth a Cloth dresser
Elizabeth was 20 living in Mabgate and her father was William Faubert a labourer. (Marriage cert)

That is all the actual proof I have.

I do not have Jonathan and his mum or dad on any census. I can not get a birth cert for Jonathan because of his date of birth.

Thanks for helping me

Jane.

Now we are getting somewhere !

You have no proof that Joseph is the brother of Jonathan, in fact, increasingly looks as though he isn't, SO forget him for now - there are lots of Rushworths around that area so although they may be distantly related, I do not believe they are brothers!

We will now look only at Jonathan !

I have to go out for a while but will come back to this when I return.

I am trying to find out who Jonathans family were. Chris I believe has him on the 1841 census, with a Martha and Joseph. As I seem to have drawn a blank with Jonathan I thought I would try going down Josephs line to se if that would throw up any clues.

I do know Jonathan was not born in Gildersome as one census suggests as I have the parish records for Gildersome and he is not there.

When I looked into this before someone had found something to suggest they were all brothers and sisters and that their parents were Joseph Rushworth and Ann Holmes. they married 6/7/1813 in St Michael and All angels Church Haworth Haworth is in Leeds Bradford.

There is a death for an Ann Rushworth in 1839 which would be why I cant find Jonathan with Mum on any Census. Joseph is a live in 1850 when Jonathan married.

Watch out.........curve ball!

On Jonathans marriage record (posted on page 1) I am wondering if the vicar mixed up the names of the fathers. That would tie in with the baptism that Chris has posted above?

STRIKE that......found Eliza* on the 41 census with her father 'William'

Jane.

Just because a marriage record does not say 'deceased' for the father, it doesn't mean he isn't dead. Same for the other way around too!
