Perhaps her husband's job on the railway took them to Liverpool.

Are you certain this is her? Sorry for asking, but are you sure she moved to Liverpool? Where did her husband die? Have you followed up all her children, perhaps she was staying with one of them?

Thanks for replying.

The information you have is correct. She Is the one as I have a copy of her death certificate. The informant was her Daughter Emily who had travelled up from Hertfordshire.

Not sure who if any of the children was in Liverpool at the time.
If I have the right William, he died in 1904.
Charles and John were both casualties of the first world war.
Henry is my Gran dad.
Her husband John died in 1939 in London.

After Charlotte died she was buried on Ripple cemetery in Barking almost opposite her son Albert.

Just seems strange to leave London for Liverpool and be brought back to be buried.

except Liverpool was also badly bombed!

Could she have gone to Liverpool to work in one of the munitions factories? Many women moved around the country to do war work. My mother-in-law moved from the north east down to Cheltenham to work.

Don't think that she was doing war work as she was eighty when she died.

Chris, what was her address at the time of her death? If not a hospital address perhaps she was with friends or family.

It would be worth researching the address, if a private one it might be worth checking the electoral register both before and after the war.

My mistake - I hadn't looked at her age!

Have you found where she was living on the 1939 register?

Is this her with daughter Florence?

1939:

Austin Q, I think that is the same one. I have not been able to find her address on the 1939 register (then I remembered that Grafton Rd North was renamed Greenwood Rd, and she was not shown there).

Tess
She died in a hospital but the private address was Rockfield Rd. I have checked the electoral register but I don't recognise the names of the occupants.

The only reasons I can think of for her going to Liverpool are to see some of her side of the family or as some of my uncles were evacuated she may have gone with them.

She may not have been living in Liverpool - maybe just went for a visit or holiday, but became ill and died there.

Been a long time but I believe that I have found the answer to why my Grandmother was in Liverpool.

I am working without my notes so hopefully the brain cell wont let me down.
My Charlottes eldest son Albert married Florence nee Wright. Florence had a sister who married into a Liverpool family.

Albert and Florence had 3 children, 1 son and 2 daughters. The youngest Daughter was born in Liverpool in 1918.

There are further connections during the second world war. I believe that Charlotte had gone to Liverpool to stay with family.

Been a long slog but got there in the end. Many thanks to everybody who gave me help with this. Much appreciated.

Thanks for letting us know Chris. It's been a long time but I'm happy that you've managed to find an answer to your question.

It's extremely satisfying when you manage to tie up loose ends no matter how long it takes and it's perfectly plausible that she was visiting her son and his family.
