I'm trying to find where I got Hulme from, I was sure I saw it somewhere but I could be wrong. I have no certs for him so far as when I looked it up there were three choices for his wife even though I know it's Beatrice. It says she was a widow in 1911 which is why I presume he's dead rather than at sea but it makes sense that he could have been at sea earlier as Devonport is where the ships are. I didn't seem to see anywhere that he was a naval pensioner. Thanks for working out which one in Manchester was probably him. Great research everyone. I missed the naval part and what could be his mother. Thanks

If we assume that the year of birth given in both 1881 and 1901 is correct, then this should be his birth:

Births Mar 1856 (>99%)
FEENEY John Manchester 8d 258

Sarah, you say,". . . .there's a few John Feeney's born in Manchester . . ."

In fact, there's only one other John Feeney born actually in Manchester reg district 1854-58:
Births Dec 1854 (>99%)
Feeney John Manchester 8d 146

None in Salford in the same period.
And none in Chorlton, which includes Hulme .

The youngest child was born 4th qr 1906, so John couldn't have died before early 1906.
Therefore the 1907 death you mention seems likely.

As the family were living in Plymouth in both 1901 and 1911, it seems reasonable to assume that John died in Plymouth.

Have you bought the death cert to check?

Sarah

Sarah Report 18 Jan 2016 22:06

I'm trying to find some information on John Feeney. He married Beatrice Bomyer in 1886. He's on the 1901 Census but not the 1911 Census so I'm pretty sure it's him that died in Plymouth in 1907. He lived with Beatrice in Devon but it says he was born in Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire. I looked on family search for his marriage and it's a bit sketchy and there's a few John Feeney's born in Manchester so I'm not sure how to work out which one he is. From the census it seems he was born about 1856 but there's a few of the same name around that time.
