Eringobragh1916 Report 14 May 2016 18:06

I have been trying to find to some degree the family of George Marshall and Mary Hervey listed on the 1871 Census eg. George R J Marshall and William FT.Marshall

It appears that Mary Marshall may have died 1871 Registered Tewksbury .

George Robert J Marshall aged 46 died and is Registered Jan. quarter 1873 Taunton Devon.
William F T aged 42 died 1872 and is Registered Devon Dec quarter.1872. Newton Abbot Devon.

Given the ages and names/initials of both the above men its a distinct probability they are the son's listed living with Mary Marshall 1871.

William F T Marshall is on the 1851 Census at Brompton Barrack's Medway Gillingham Kent.
Occupation: Ensign Army

Cant find George Rbt.J Marshall (1851)

1861 George Rbt.J Marshall is on the Census in St Helier .
Occupation : Late Captain on Half Pay. 27th Regiment.

Cant locate William F T.Marshall 1861.

Well Done Eringobragh !

Odd that only the daughters from James Hervey's first marriage are found.
Eldest daughter Elizabeth b 1782 is still unnacounted for but, she would already be 20yrs old when her youngest, Scots born, half sibling was born.

Others are:
James b 1781 and William b 1795

William b 1785 ( assumed to have died in infancy as name reused in 1795)
Robert b 1792 ( " " " " " " " " reused on 2nd marriage)

On the Paisley Death index, there is a Hervey child listed. Dated 25 Sep 1795
No name on the index which often infers the child was not baptised or, it could be either William (1) or Robert (1) with his name omitted from the index ?

Assuming that the female death refers to Jean Hervey Ms Winning, then she died 21 Dec 1795

OPR Death Search PAISLEY:
The entries may refer to burials as SP make no distinction on the search index.
Where the name James Hervie is showing, it's becauset his name appears within the record but it's not the name of the deceased.
1) un named
2) George
3) Jean

1 25/09/1795 HERVIE ----- JAMES HERVIE M ABBEY /RENFREW 559/00 0050 0211

Nicola...Taken all day and plenty of patience but satisfied my curiosity re Lt Colonel Marshall ....!!

Christian name GEORGE...

Everything referred only to Lt.Colonel Marshall but persistence pays of eventually..

I found he was stationed in Gib.in the late 1830s and the following sent me to Jamaica West Indies...

" 19 Dec.1839 Lt.Colonel Marshall sailed from Gib. for the West Indies arriving 4th. Feb 1840.The 82nd Reg were there until 1843 but lost 200 men and eight officers in the first year to yellow fever Including Lt Colonel Marshall "
This Lt Colonel Marshall could have been anyone but I then cross ref.and found the following.

From "Wellington's Men Remembered" Vol.2

MARSHAL GEORGE.
Captain 82nd Prince of Wales Volunteer Regiment of Foot
Box Tomb
New Burial Ground
Up Park Camp
St Andrew's Parish
Kingston
Jamaica

" Sacred to the memory of George Marshall K.H (Think that may mean Kings Horse)
Late Lt.Colonel Commanding HMS 82nd Reg.of Foot. Who after 42 years of Meritorious Service died of fever 2nd.June 1841 at U.P.C. (Up Park Camp)
Aged 58years."
There is a photo of the tomb in the book but not able to access it...

I think he must be Mary Hervey's husband....will continue perusing to see if I can further confirm it.....

But please give me a little time to jot all this down on paper and try to draw trees between all these marriages!

I'LL BE BACK ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

GlasgowLass Report 12 May 2016 17:14

Eringobragh,
I had a look at the Kibbles a few days ago.
*** I know that at least one or two of James Kibble's children married and remained in Scotland.... See footnote
His sister Isabella was the 2nd wife of James Hervey ( married 1798)
Son James married Christina Hervey in Manchester ( 2x children b in Glasgow)

Dau Elizabeth married James Hervey in Glasgow 1849 and are found living in Mosside, Manchester at 1851.
On this census, James Hervey was 38yrs old and place of birth is given as Isle Of Bourbon.
Bourbon is now called Reunion

Therefore:
1851 found in Mosside. Place of birth: Ile Of Bourbon
1861 found in Macclesfield Place of birth: Mauritius
1871 found in Chorley. Place of birth: Maritius
1881 found i Chorley. Place of birth; Mauritius
1891 found in Chorley. Place of birth: Mauritius
1901 Found in Alderley Edge. Place of birth: BOURBON
.
Lle Bourbon/Reunion is also in the Indian Ocean and lies about 109 mls southeast of Mauritius

Not sure who his father was but surely he must be a grandson from the first marriage of of James Hervey?
( husband of both Jean Winning and Isabella Kibble)

His approx year of birth is consistently 1813
This suggests that all sons from James Hervey's 2nd marriage in 1798 would be too young to be this man's father.

Wonder if Nicola knows?

Footnote
*** I was given access to a GR tree from 2011.
The person gave me access re a potential common rellie but, we have no connection. The contact did not removed my access
On a GR search yesterday, I realised that the Kibble family is in THIS tree and took a look!
Assuming the info is correct ( some of it certainly is), it may fill in some Kibble gaps for Nicola

I have been pondering James Hervey b circa 1813 in Mauritius who married Elizabeth Kibble in Glasgow 1849.

If he was born in Mauritius, who was his father?
In Feb 1837, a man named James Kibble in Mauritius received £58 11s 4d in compensation for two slaves.
Father or son? Or not connected?

You may have missed the relevant posts Nicola but, your family seems to have at least 2 marriages between cousins.( Kibble and Hervey)
Descendants of James Hervie with Jean Winning and/or Isabella Kibble married the children of Isabella's Kibble's own brother, James Kibble
