Served13 years - India nearly 9 years, Gibraltar nearly 2, Mauritius 1 ½ and South Africa Cape of Good Hope just short of a year.
Claimed his discharge at end of second period of engagement in 1869

Has good conduct medals, India Mutiny Medal and clasp for defence of Lucknow and also Silver medal for long service and good conduct

I am looking to find out about my Alderton family. Robert Alderton born about 1832 Bury St Edmunds Suffolk .Mary Ann born about 1843 co Wicklow Ireland. Children Elizabeth born 1866 in Gibraltar, Margaret born about 1868 in Mauritus Sarah 1871 Emma 1873 Caroline 1875 Robert 1876 Charles 1878 Louisa 1880 Alfred 1883 Bury St Edmunds. In 1881 census they are living at 16 Raingate Street Bury St Edmunds Suffolk. I wondered why the two first daughter were born abroad? Thank you for looking.
