To fit the last piece of the jigsaw into place, I am trying to find out who lived in this lovely house in the 1861 census:

HIGHFIELD, DUNHAM MASSEY, BOWDEN, CHESHIRE.

I'm afraid that I don't have any names to go on to help you.

Thank you.

On the image of the 1861 census posted by safc - I think the surname of Clara is Haigh (although it has been transcribed as Hugh). This looks like her birth - with the middle initials that are on the 1861 census):-

First name(s) CLARA LUCY SARAH ALICE
Last name HAIGH
Birth year 1853
Birth quarter 3
Registration month -
Mother's last name -
District CHORLTON
County Lancashire
Country England
Volume 8C

Thank you both very much.

That is definitely the correct house.

And Emma and Clara share the same surname of HAIGH, not Hugh.

Now can you clever gals see who is there in 1871, please?
:-)

On the 1861 census Highfield seems to be near or in St. Margaret's Road. Is that still the case as I can't find Highfield in the 1871 census?

There are also a couple of uninhabited houses on St Margaret's Road in 1871 - not named, though.

Also some houses in St Margaret's Road which are inhabited, but not named.

I've had a good look at all those names and, unforch, none of them 'fit' our family or timeline.
It was worth a try, though!
I'll sort of close the thread now.
Many thanks to all.

The JOHN HILTON living in the house in 1861 is my 5x Great Grandfather!!!

John Hilton Head Married Male 48 1813 Merchant And Manufacturer Manchester, Lancashire

So this lovely house was handed down through the generations and now I know every one of them.
