AustinQ Report 21 Oct 2016 10:12

Morning Kevin,

I think Derek was in fact born Ronald 1931- the illegitimate child of Queenie Gore

name(s) RONALD GORE
Birth year 1931
Birth quarter 2
Mother's last name GORE
District WINCHCOMB
County Gloucestershire
Country England
Volume 6A Page 576

Although he is listed as Derek on the electoral register with Maureen, he's later listed as Ronald (we think) when he moves back with Queenie in the 1960s.

Lots of people lied about fathers on marriage certificates- especially if they didn't one!

I think the next step would be to get the birth certificate of Ronald born 1931.

That made me laugh.....I did all I could not to attend school. I too, joined the army at 16.
I only have my dad's wedding certificate which states he married Maureen Winifred Cox 23rd October 1954 aged 22 and Maureen was 19.
Maureen told us that she had met Derek as he was leaving the army.
He was a machine setter at the point of marriage, living at 18 Kings Orchard, Parton Lane, Churchdown. Maureen was stationed at RAF Innsworth, Churchdown.
Where it states name and surname of groom, it says John Derek Gore. When he signs at the bottom, he put Derek John Gore.......Queenie Gore is a witness.
Father of John Derek Gore is listed as Ronald Gore (Pilot Officer, Royal Air Force)
Would be interesting to find any newspaper articles about my mum, Maureen as I don't think she is squeeky clean either.
I'm still very confused as to how I can get the correct birth certificate for my dad. I have ordered the one for Ronald Gore born 1922 in Winchcombe.

I'm hoping the paper has the information wrong about TWO children. I don't see any reference anywhere else to another child.

Gloucester Citizen - Saturday 27 February 1943

Gloucester County Petty Sessions

For failing to send her child to school, Queenie Gore of Parton Lane, Churchdown was fined 10/-. Leon Mason, School Attendance Officer said that the boy had not attended school since January 4th.

Oh No! This might confuse things but I can't not put it.

It's an article from Gloucester Journal - Saturday 25 March 1944

In summary it's re a Queenie Bryanhill aged 35, married and from 91 Parton Lane. She was sentenced to one months imprisonment for forging her sister's PO savings book. Her sister was Yvonne Evelyn Gore who had a baby and had gone to live temporarily with Queenie. It also states that Queenie Bryanhill was a married woman with TWO young children and was from a large family that formerly lived at Gretton.

So it looks like Queenie was using the surname Bryanhill for a time?

My thoughts exactly.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 21 Oct 2016 08:35

I do hope so PH. If correct, it also explains the 'Master Ronald Gore, Grandson' listed in the paper for the 1937 funeral.

So Ronald L was possibly Queenie's brother, and Ronald 1931 was Queenie's son- just need the birth certificate to confirm.

PricklyHolly Report 21 Oct 2016 08:32

We were obviously both trying to figure it out at the same time Austin.

It's been bugging me since I woke up at 7am this morning.

Phew!! I think we might have cracked it!!

:-D

AustinQ Report 21 Oct 2016 08:24

PH- great minds think alike. The 1931 birth for Ronald, would fit the details given in the newspaper for Derek.

Think it's time to buy another certificate!

PricklyHolly Report 21 Oct 2016 08:22

Ronald L Gore had married Annie F Kerr in 1957.

You posted earlier......

" I am one of the 3 children that Derek and Maureen had. We were born in 1955, 1957 and 1958 then fostered by early 1959. Maureen left us with Derek and Queenie and went to Germany"

Perhaps this is John Derek aka Ronald aka Derek with Queenie on the 1861 and 1862 ER

Kevin- Is the 1932 date of birth taken from his wedding certificate?

Derek is mentioned in a couple of articles which might be of interest. Note that Queenie was living at 91 bungalow Parton Road according to the 1950 electoral register, so I'm certain this is your 'Derek':

Gloucester Citizen - Thursday 02 November 1950

Off To Hong Kong
Now on his way to Hong Kong from Malaya, I am told, is Derek Gore (20) of the 4th Queen's Own Hussars, whose mother lives at 91 Parton Lane, Cheltenham Road East, Glo'ster.
A regulare soldier like all the Hussars, Derek has already completed two and a half yeas of his five years engagement, and of that 7 months have been spent in Malaya based in Ipoh in Perak State, one of the most disturbed areas in the federation.
Although Ipoh is their base the squadrons often spend months away on detachment in other parts of the Federation and Derek has seen service against the Communist inspired terrorists to the North.
The for some months he was in the Raub district, the site of Malaya's one big gold mine and a favourite lurking spot for the bandits due to the thick jungle and the jungle covered mountains.
---------------------------------------

Gloucester Citizen - Monday 06 November 1950

Left
A day or two ago I recounted a story told by a military observer about Derek Gore, a local soldier now on his way to Hong Kong.
The home address of this young soldier was given as in Parton Lane. I am told by the present occupants of the house that his mother left there in July last.
---------------------------------------------

This last part fits, as in 1951 Queenie is listed at King's Orchard Camp.

So- he was known as 'Derek', the article puts his DOB as around 1930, he was in the 4th Queen's Own Hussars and Queenie was stated as his mother.
-------------------------------------

As we know the family weren't big on keeping to their given names- I did wonder about this birth:
name(s) RONALD GORE
Birth year 1931
Birth quarter 2
Mother's last name GORE
District WINCHCOMB
County Gloucestershire

With all the name changing in this family.......I am beginning to wonder if John Derek Gore was actually the Ronald Gore who was born in Winchcomb 1931.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 21 Oct 2016 06:51

Listed as just Derek on the electoral register:

Year: 1958
Country: England
County: Gloucestershire
Parliamentary Divison: Gloucester
Place of Abode: Flat 9 Quedgeley Court, Bristol Road

Name: Derek Gore
Name: Maureen W Gore

In 1957 they're listed same address. but Flat 6.

Not listed in Quedgeley Court in 1959.

Thanks for the wireless fine....saw that earlier.....made me chuckle. Seems all of Queenie's family were on the fiddle somehow.....Just want to find my birth father and put it all to rest.......chuckles along the way are great though :-D

Kevin

Kevin Report 20 Oct 2016 22:03

Hi Kay. I can't confirm anything about my father.....wish I could. Going by AustinQ research, I may have had a lucky escape by being fostered. Can't believe I'm one of 11 kids and 8 of us were ditched. Even though I met my birth mother in August, I don't think I will be seeing her again. Just want closure on my father now....dead or alive.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 20 Oct 2016 21:04
