Jean

Jean Report 27 Jan 2017 17:22

Thank you Flip,

I will start to look elsewhere for him now .

Flip

Flip Report 27 Jan 2017 17:11

Have you tried widening your search - he may have moved south of the border (try 1939 register) or deaths in England/Wales, gone to Ireland or emigrated. Maybe you need to check further afield?

Jean

Jean Report 27 Jan 2017 17:03

Sorry, I don't know if he survived WW1, it's just that I can't seem to find a death for him on SP, which I am finding quite difficult to use at the moment even to log on.

Yes the Margaret Butler showing with them is their mothers older sister.

Well at least you have him in 1901 now. Not seeing a Service record for him, but so many WW1 records were destroyed by fire in WW2.

AG asked if he survived WW1?

Do you actually know he served, he would have been nearing the upper limit age wise when war broke out.

You say you're trying to work out who Margaret Butler is related to, yet you also say she was their Mother's sister ??

Jean

Jean Report 27 Jan 2017 16:45

The census is wrong , they are brothers,

I am trying to work out who the Margaret Butler is related to, the margaret butler showing is an aunt , their mother's sister.

Is that not John with him in 1891 then?

Here together in 1901, but would appear here to be shown as cousins?

Sorry for not giving parents details.

They are John Wright and Mary nee McCuskey., I have found him on the 1881 living in Kirk Street, with his mother and brother Henry sister Mary and uncle Felix McCuskey .

He is not showing on the 1901, not that I can see anyway.
thank you

ArgyllGran Report 27 Jan 2017 16:08

Who were his parents, Jean?

To save us having to spend credits on SP to see 1911, please can you copy/paste the 1901 census (if you've found him on that) - or earlier census?

There are several possibilities in censuses - I can't tell which is the right John Wright. None of the censuses show his birthplace as Calton.

SP isn't showing the birth of any John Wright in Calton in 1870-75.

EDIT: -
Oh yes, I see his birth now, in 1873 in Calton. Strangely, it only shows when I search Glasgow as a whole, but not when searching Calton specifically.

Did he survive WW1?

Jean

Jean Report 27 Jan 2017 14:56

Could someone please look at the service records for John Wright d.o.b. 9/2/1873.
in Calton, Glasgow .

I have him on the 1911 Scottish census living at 31 Kirk Street, Glasgow with brother Henry and cousin Daniel Buttler , but cannot seem to find him after this.

thank you
