Interested reading about some people still being closed! My mum died in 1997 in NZ and I have seen where she was a surprise to me as she never mentioned it. Also no one has sent in any proof of death! As I'm the only one with her death cert my dad died in 2008 and he is still closed. I'm going to get him opened

My father died in Staines, Surrey (used to be Middlesex) which is near Heathrow Airport.

Pam ..... was that in England or Wales?

If elsewhere in the UK (eg Scotland), then those records were not consulted by the NHS

Pam Report 5 Dec 2017 21:50

My father died in 1982 in the UK. His record was a closed record and I had to provide proof of his death to get the record opened.

The updating of the 1939 Register by the NHS stopped around 1991, so deaths after 1991 are not on there unless someone has notified FMP and provided all the evidence.

FMP is also allegedly slowly updating the Register ................. but they use only the GRO records from England and Wales, deaths occurring elsewhere in the UK or overseas will not be included unless someone sends in the death certificate.

My aunt and uncle died in Australia and their records are still closed although both would be well over 100 (uncle was born 1895!) ......... only 1 child was left in England and his children don't seem interested in asking FMP to open the grandparents records, and I'm certainly not going to go to the expense of getting their death certificates from Australia and providing the proof!

Births Sep 1918
Buss Dorothy W Knightley Canterbury 2a 1440

So if she married a Canadian and went abroad then her death won't have been picked up so she would still be a closed record

For instance
My elder sister born 1931 died in2002 and her record is open

My elder brother born 1934 died in 2001 is closed because he went to live in Spain and died there so his death hasn't been picked up

Thank you so much you are a Gem I will google the convent to see if I can find out about it. She never said anything about it. My first job was at Queen Victoria hospital in EG when I was 16 as a cadet nurse and she took me to the boarding house there!i tried to find her sister Dorothy Buss but nothing has come up, strange how my mums name came up being born in 1924 and died here in NZ , yet Dorothy not and she was born earlier just not quite 100yrs!
I was wondering if I could ask another favour for the image of the Smitherman family, so I can show my aunt, my dads youngest sister
So many thanks, another thing I didn't know about my Mum, will be able to tell my brother ??

Oh wow thank you, you have found her ....thank you so much, her birthday is 25 July 1924 is there any way you could please send me the image?
She never mentioned that she did domestic training, but then they way she felt about her father leaving the family and her and her brother having to be in an orphanage for a while as children as her mother was struggling to cope so I'm sure she wouldn't of liked him returning! He did leave again and her parents did divorce! I found articles about this in the newspapers.
I wonder if she was with her oldest sister Dorothy Buss born 1918 she married a Canadian in 1944 and died in Canada just 18mths ago at 98!
Also would it be too much to just look at another one?
George Smitherman 1887/8 Royal Tunbridge Wells. It has my grandmother Louisa and one other person? 4 locked which would be my father and his siblings. My father died in 2008 and I know I can get him unlocked. I was wondering who else could be this other person I have tried other Smitherman names but nothing comes up.
Thank you so much once again.

I am trying to find my mother on this census. I have my grandparents Frederick Buss and Isabel Buss (she is down as Buss line through Osborne) in Canterbury Kent. When I first looked it said that there were locked persons. Now my uncle Frederick Buss born 1921 is showing, but not my mother Irene Buss who was the youngest child born 1924 so would of been only 15. I was hoping the locked person/s would be her as she died in 1997 and there is a means of unlocking a person.
I was wondering if someone could find this image, I don't need it unlocked, just if it says there is a locked person!
If there isn't, then she wasn't living there (her parents had split for a few years previous and she always said she had lived with her grandparents)! Managed to find said grandparents transcribed not under Knightley but Knight! So to see if she is living with them would someone be able to check Henry (c1865) and Caroline Knight in Canterbury Kent and see if she is living with them, I know she put her age up when she was 16 to 18 to join the ATS, but in 1939 she was still only 15.
Sorry to be so long winded! Trying to get as much information down as possible!
Many thanks and much appreciated as I would love to find her
