Mystery marriage

Joan Mary Caless b 1905 who at some point married Thomas Fraser.
I know nothing more than that. He was in the army, an officer I think. He may have been widowed. They may have lived abroad. They certainly had an active social life. Don’t know when either of them died.
I would really value some help.

The birth date on those records doesn't tie in with a birth in the first qtr:

Looks like she died in Scotland:

Death:

Name: JOAN MARY FRASER/ CALESS

Age: 58

Year of Death: 1963

Ref: 329/ 30

RD Name: Auchterarder

Glyn

Glyn Report 17 Jan 2018 08:11

That’s really good. Yes AustinQ I agree as her middle name is definitely Mary, and she died at a fairly early age.
Is there any place I can check which could fill in the gap between her marriage and death? They ended up in Scotland by the looks of things but for some reason I thought they were abroad. I also vaguely remember being told Thomas Fraser or Frazier was in the army or one of the Forces. That’s pretty vague I know

The marriage cert should tell you Thomas's occupation, his age, whether or not he was a widower, and his father's name. Also, hopefully, Thomas's middle name, to aid identification.

Joan's death cert will tell you if she was widowed or not.

They don't appear to have had any children - at least not born in England or Wales.
Impossible to tell in Scotland - Fraser/Frazer is such a common name, and mother's maiden surname can't be used to narrow it down.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 17 Jan 2018 12:17

If Thomas was a widow- then there is this possibility:

Thomas Lochead Fraser born 30th January 1889 Renfrewshire, Scotland

First marriage to Dorothy Walton Mellor in 1917 Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire.

At least one child born- Jean Lochead Fraser 30th July 1918 Lancs- died 1995 Inverness

Dorothy died 8th September 1932 Lambeth Surrey.

England & Wales, National Probate Calendar
FRASER Dorothy Walton of 63 The Avenue, Kew Gardens Surrey (wife of Thomas Lochead Fraser) died 8 September 1932 at St. Thomas's Home Middlesex Probate Manchester 26 October to George Rupert Mellor Solicitor and notary public.
Effect £3243
------------------------------------------

Thomas served in WW1 in the Royal Army Medical Corps (Captain in 1918)

Possibly later a Colonel OBE , Military Hospital, Edinburgh (1939)

He died in Glasgow, Scotland.

Death:
THOMAS LOCHHEAD FRASER
Age: 64
Year of death: 1954
Ref: 685/5 25
RD Name: George Square

There are various records for him on Ancestry. I won't post them all as you really need the 1938 marriage certificate to confirm his name and age.
