Find Ancestors

I've been trying for a while to find a birth or christening and details of his younger days on census records for my brick wall without success. I wondered if anyone else could?

Charles Burr was born around 1841 though he changes his age on every record I've found for him. In 1891 and 1911 he claims he was born in Toddington and in 1901 Clapham which are both in Bedfordshire but too far apart to both be correct.

I found a possible census record for him 1851 living as a visitor in Warwickshire. He is given as 9 years old and born in Bedfordshire.

The first record I have which I can definitely confirm as Charles is his marriage in 1882. He married Eliza Dimmock in Leighton Buzzard and gave his age as 39 and a house painter while Eliza was 27. Both said they had never previously been married and the witnesses are Eliza's parents. Charles gives his father as Abraham Burr a blacksmith.

Can anybody find Charles on a census before his marriage?

It would be a good idea to get the birth certificate that Austin has posted to see who his mother was.

Thank you for replying. I did wonder about that Abraham Burr but he doesn’t marry until after Charles was born which I found odd. That birth in 1840 in Woburn Union looks promising though. I’ll order the certificate to confirm.

Thank you both. The Clark/e name is interesting. Both spellings of Clark/e are current family names. Hopefully the birth cert will clear a few things up.

Interestingly, Clapham came under Bedford Union and Toddington came under Woburn Union

However, I'm not sure that 1844 birth is correct (I can't be sure)
