Help needed with this missing link.....
I think as the rest of the census information is on this post, I will carry on from here so everyone can see the information I have to date.
William Blackey, brother to Hannah (1806/7-?), Mary (1810/1813-?), and Sarah, now Sarah Simpson, widowed, (1815-?), emigrated to New Zealand with his family in 1854.
It seems he made a number of journeys back to U.K. I have found a voyage 1872 from Victoria to Liverpool. Also 1888/9 coming from London to NSW, Sydney.
It is possible he made other trips back as well.

Can anyone find other trips he made?
Or help me trace what happened to Hannah, last mentioned on the 1851 census as far as I’ve discovered, Mary, on 1851,1861,and 1871 census living with Sarah, and at Birkenhead.
I wondered if the journeys William made to U.K. coincided with deaths or family matters relating to the 3 sisters.
Finally how would I go about finding out if they owned these properties rather than renting?

It’s a big ask I know to get information on all of this, but I’ve drawn a blank, and I know how helpful and resourceful you all are.
Thanks a lot
Glyn :-)

Another confusing thing I’ve found relating to previous information about Thomas Blackey. I looked up the Family search site as suggested and found Land Tax Assessments for Thomas Blackey for 1784, 1786, 1789 and 1791.
I’m not really sure what these are, but I assumed they were rent for land and a house.
I had Thomas death as 1786 but if he’s being taxed for land etc ( he’s a farmer) then is this posthumous charges or can anyone find another da The for his death as I’ve searched in vain.
Can’t find a date of death for his wife Hannah either!
Thank you

Also you were all great going back another generation to Thomas Blackey and Hannah Sutton and their children. I’ve found many Thomas Blackey’s ( common name!!) but I can’t get further back than him and Hannah.
Can anyone help go further back please?
Thanks again

That sounds more like it as she appears in this one place and then vanishes. Thank you.
I couldn’t find Mary in 1861 census which is what threw me a bit

On 1871 census image, I agree that it says Kate.... but think she is noted as Serv not son.

Several other people on that page are noted similarly.

Maybe Kate in 1881 ??

Kate Concannon

She's in Bootle in 1891 and 1901.
1901 says she's married, which may be a mistake, as she's single before that.

For our reference (Ancestry's version):

Mary Blackey
in the 1871 England Census
Name: Mary Blackey
Age: 60
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1811
Relation: Head
Gender: Female
Where born: Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Civil Parish: Tranmere
Ecclesiastical parish: St Paul
County/Island: Cheshire
Country: England
Registration district: Birkenhead
Sub-registration district: Tranmere
ED, institution, or vessel: 9
Household schedule number: 254
Piece: 3751
Folio: 126
Page Number: 51
Household Members:
Name Age
Mary Blackey 60
Sarah Simpson 56
Cale Concannon 15 - general servant, domestic - born Ireland.
John Thompson 24
Richard Addison 53

It says "son" but the age is in the female column.
I think the name is Kate.
The writer doesn't seem to cross any of his t's elsewhere in the document.

I suggest that Kate is no relation, but just the domestic servant, and that "son" is a complete mistake.

MYSTERIOUS SON....WHO IS HE?
Hi everyone, I need your ingenuity to help me....
I’m not sure if this is the best “thread” to attach this enquiry to, but I know you like it to be attached to previous queries so apologies in advance if it’s not helpful!!…
So Thomas Blackey 1766-1854 had a daughter called Mary Blackey.
She never married. I’ve found her on the 1851 and 1871 and 1881 censuses. She was born Dec 1810 and died 1890 in Birkenhead.
She lived with her widowed sister, Sarah Simpson ( nee Blackey, ) in the 1871 and 1881 censuses.
So the mystery is with the 1871 census...
It lists Mary and Sarah and a son aged 15 and it looks as though he’s called RAFE CONCORUM OR CONCONOM...see what you think.
I checked the Irish census but there doesn’t seem to be any for 1860s. Mary vanishes from 1851-1871 censuses and I wondered if she had a “fling” in Ireland resulting in this son.
The mystery is he’s on 1871 census but I can’t find any other mention of him!!!
So I’m asking all you clever researchers to clear up this mystery person for me if you can....
Thank you

Thank you
So is Findmypast where you found the adverts for the room rental and the criminal offence report?
If it is can you tell me, do you just put the persons name in and the reports come up or do you have to put in very detailed information? I’m just amazed at how much you found out so quickly

FMP is the Findmypast website which has more records, it's a subscription site https://search.findmypast.co.uk

and https://www.familysearch.org/ is free to use but you need to register.

That’s a good help. What is FMP? Sorry I don’t know this abbreviation. And Family Search is a website? Does it go back further than Thomas siblings?
