Frances Peake - London - Seemingly Unheard of!

beanie Report 22 May 2018 16:10

Hello, I have a main Spencer thread but it seems to have run out of steam with no replies yesterday. Dorothy (who is also stuck on here) and myself have hit a brick wall in finding John Spencer, who Frances Peake married, and his parents, grandparents and siblings. In fact, the marriage is not even listed on the Latter Day Saints Website. We know they got married at St Michael’s, Wood Street, London. For the time, our Spencer’s of this generation, appear to have no official mention. This seems a touch odd.

So, with everything else, I thought if we look at the Peake’s a touch more, or can find someone who knows of Frances Peake (she doesn’t seem to be on anybody’s family tree - could this be a fake name?) it would lead us back to John Spencer and his ancestors the other way.

Thanks and Kind Regards,

Benjamin-Elijah.

Hello! Sorry to be a slow-coach on replying - yes, this is the marriage. I think Dorothy got it from a rival of this site if you get my drift?

Yeah, we’re, if you’ll forgive the pun, totally stuck, we picked them up on the census living under the Southam district (probably at Wormleighton Manor). We know the Peake’s parents lived in Finsbury Park (Robert and Martha) but no idea on John or their close family relatives, we are trying to jump a few generations back on John’s side and get his Brother’s and Sisters also if possible.

Thanks for your replies.

I think this is our John and Frances:

John Spencer
Age 80
Estimated Birth Year abt 1761
Gender Male
Where born Warwickshire, England
Civil parish Southam
Hundred Knightlow (Southam Division)
County/Island Warwickshire
Country England
Registration district Southam
Sub-registration district Southam
Piece 1138
Book 16
Folio 26
Page number 18
Household Members
Name Age
John Spencer 80
Frances Spencer 75

- Is there anywhere obvious to go from here? I guess the kids would have moved out too...

Kind Regards,

Benjamin-Elijah.

There are many trees on Ancestry that have John Spencer born 1761 Warwickshire married Frances Turner 1787 in Southam, Warwickshire. These trees show the same 1841 census that you do.

Hi Margaret, we are pretty sure the marriage itself is in London?

Thanks,

On second thoughts, I totally see what you are getting at, but, did they have a Son called George who married Ann Eaves?

Many thanks.

I'm not posting the baptism records until I've checked your other threads - I suspect they're already posted there.

Unfortunately there's no image of the marriage record, to see who George's parents were.

Hi Catherine, are you sure, because i've worked out there was a John Spencer and Frances Turner marriage in Southam, they were both born in Southam to as were the links to George. It's more likely than a sudden and unexplained move to London when there is a more obvious suggestion staring us in the face. It was Margaret above that came up with this alternative suggestion and I'm inclined to agree that it is more plausible, can you disprove it please, one way or another?

If my alternative explanation is true, what i'm stuck on is that I have his Dad as potentially the Sir John Spencer of Wormleighton born 1734 but he is not listed as having married an Alice or having a child called George - could be a first/second wife etc but I can't find anything along these lines....Illegitimate child?? There is apparently some dirty history on the grapevine...

Thanks for everybody's time :-)
