Member Since: April 2018 Posts: 3 Send Message	I am trying to trace my mother's ancestors, can't find anything of her father Joseph Shields 1880-1890 or her mother Annie Hyndes 9/10/1886 Renfrewshire Scotland. May have been born in Port Glasgow or Greenock. Definitely lived in Greenock, Duncan Street I think.

This is the best website for Scottish records -https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/search-our-records You register but it's not a subscription site. Initial searches can be made for free and then you buy credits to allow you to look at full records - 30 credits for £7.50 6 credits gets you to the records for bmd and full census. Births over 100 years ago, marriages 75 years and deaths 50 years - you will be able to look at the actual certificate and download. Whilst census transcripts are available on commercial sites such as Ancestry and Find My Past (and therefore GR) 1841-1901, only SP has the originals and the 1911 census. If you find the marriage for your grandparents then that will name both their parents and where and when they married and also (hopefully) give accurate ages Do you know anything more at all about your relatives. Death certificates will give ages and names of parents if known to informants.

	Further to Greyghost's advice about what info you will find on Joseph & Annie's marriage cert - Although 30 credits is the minimum you can buy, it will only cost you 6 credits to view / print the image of the original cert . Plenty left over to view other documents. Possibly Agnes's birth: SHIELDS AGNES F 1886 564/2 617 Greenock East Two possibilities for James's birth: SHIELDS JAMES M 1893 574/ 152 Port Glasgow SHIELDS JAMES M 1893 574/ 195 Port Glasgow Possibly Joseph junior's birth: SHIELDS JOSEPH M 1899 574/ 195 Port Glasgow
