No relationships given on 1841 census. Jane could be aged 15-19 as ages rounded down to nearest 5 in 1841 census. Mary could be 45-49, so born as early as 1792

Possible the older Roseanna was Mary's daughter which puts her husband alive to c1828-30

Mary here is said to be born in Ireland

How do you know Mary's name was Simpson?

Helen

Helen Report 17 Jun 2018 22:16

Thank you everyone for replying but i have all the above info i am looking for the marriage between mary and matthew. I know her name his simpson as i have her death certificate from jersey and most records from there state she was bornnin scotland.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 18 Jun 2018 10:52

In censuses her YOB varies from 1790 to 1796.
What was her age at death?

Searching Scotlands People for births/baptisms 1790-1800 brings up results for 57 Mary Simpsons.

As there's no marriage record to give an idea of area, it's impossible to pick out your particular Mary, but her age at death might help to narrow it down a bit.

Joined 1812 aged 19 so b c1792/3. Discharged 15.5.1833 aged 40yr 2 months at Stockport Barracks. At the time of his discharge he was 5' 8 1'2", light brown hair, hazel eyes and swarthy complexion. By trade a Weaver.

Apart from 6 ½ years served in the Mediterranean the rest of his time was spent on "Home Service" i.e. within the UK/Ireland. appears to have remained a Private throughout. discharged at his own request on a modified pension. Former trade was a Weaver. Attested at Lurgan, County Down. No other info in papers apart from saying at discharge his Conduct and Character had been those of a very good soldier..

If the attestation is him and the Portsmouth baptism is of his child, not a lot of time between Attestation Feb.1812 in Ireland and baptism of child in Portsmouth June 1813

Online brief Regimental records for the 8th Foot, show the Regiment in America, landing back in England in summer 1815, having spent some time there involved in various skirmishes. This may not have involved all Battalions.

From then until the indian rebellion in 1857, the King's undertook a variety of duties in Bermuda, Canada, Cephalonia, Corfu, Gibraltar, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta and Zante.
