AustinQ Report 17 Aug 2018 07:21

I'm at work today so don't have much time- but just wondered where the birth date of 1896 came from?

Briefly looking back on the thread I had thought this was a possible death for him which gives an earlier birth date:

Name: Joseph Steadman
Death Age: 49
Birth Date: abt 1889
Registration Date: Mar 1938
Registration district: Birmingham
Inferred County: Warwickshire
Volume: 6d Page: 680
--------------------------------

Does it give his age and father's name on his marriage certificate?

Lynnedee Report 16 Aug 2018 23:15

Help with Joseph Steadman snr if possible please. born c 1896 d 1938 Birmingham. ( Friends sister may have certificate but has to find it!) Am having trouble " back- tracking" him As he didn't marry Beatrice until 1914 they wont be on 1911 census together and I haven't access to the electoral roll, not sure of Josephs occupation, I did find a whip maker b 1893 and living in Birmingham but I looked at the transcript and not the original - this is when my credits ran out so I would be grateful for any help. Thanks in advance.
(am off to bed now so I will check back in the morning)

sorry for being late in replying - am still looking for info myself. Thank you for your replies. I'll be seeing my friend tomorrow so I will ask if he is in touch with the daughter
born in 1927.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 14 Jul 2018 14:30

Having followed the children of Joseph and Beatrice it looks like one of the daughters (born 1927) is still living. She appears on the 2018 electoral register.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 14 Jul 2018 13:26

She isn't listed in the indexes for Warstone Cemetery.

She died in 1978:

Thanks Austin and Dea, having checked with my friend he has confirmed the Kendal Rise Rd address, so glad you looked at this otherwise a lot of time would have been spent on the wrong people - thank you so much for your help.
Apologies to SyvialnCanada for giving the wrong info but still very grateful for your help and for the information about Joyce.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 14 Jul 2018 08:29

Yes Dea- I'm pretty certain it's correct-

Beatrice lived for many years in Kendal Rise Road

On the electoral register (1950- 1955) Joyce and Joseph are living at Rock Avenue which is just a stone's throw away from Kendal Rise Road.

I reckon that's the one too Austin - she is a widow on 1939 but there are closed records on there who 'could' be Joseph + Leslie? :

I suspect that the 1912 birth for Joseph is not the the Joseph you are looking for.

That Joseph seems to have died the same year:

Births Mar 1912
Steadman Joseph Bailey Birmingham 6d 101

Deaths Sep 1912
STEADMAN Joseph 0 Birmingham 6d 81
-------------------------------------

Is it possible he was born a little later. You mentioned a possible brother, Leslie- this would seem to fit with these births (with mother's maiden name Cooper):

Births Jun 1914
STEADMAN Joseph Cooper Birmingham 6d 588

Births Sep 1918
Steadman Leslie Cooper Birmingham 6d 366
-------------------------

Possible death for Joseph:

Name: Joseph Steadman
Death Age: 65
Birth Date: 27 Apr 1914
Registration Date: Jun 1979
Registration district: Birmingham
Volume: 32 Page: 1473
------------------------------

There are a couple of possible Cooper/ Steadman marriages, but I think this is most likely:

Marriages Mar 1914

COOPER Beatrice Steadman Birmingham 6d 368
Steadman Joseph Cooper Birmingham 6d 368
---------------------------

Electoral register 1935:

5 court 48 Hingeston Street
Joseph Steadman (the elder)
Beatrice Steadman
Joseph Steadman (the younger)

Lynne

so far as I could tell, both trees on ancestry were the same, with exactly the same information. I bet one copied from the other!!

But we do need to be certain that Joseph's parents were Lydia Mary Bailey and John Steadman.

Lynnedee

Lynnedee Report 13 Jul 2018 20:49

I'm hoping my friend will get some feedback from his relative soon and this information can be backed up, I didn't realize there were 2 trees on Ancestry - wonder if they are accurate, still I will make note of the details and hopefully check them as soon as I can. I know the accuracy isn't always good as someone had the same relatives as me until it came to my line and there were inaccuracies. Thank you for taking a peek for me, I have posted on military chat but no replies as yet, I know it probably covers more of the mens forces but it is worth a try

apparently only 1 other person there, could be one of their children or a grandchild, or ????

Of course, many young men had already joined up, and therefore are often not on the Register, certainly not at their homes.
