Trying to trace in what way Brian?

Looking for living descendants or trying to go backwards?

This looks to be the family in 1939 on the Register - it is Crockett, the first name on the list is Reginald and he's been transcribed as Croskett with the rest Crockett. Any names showing have already died so the list is not breaking privacy rights

Croskett Household (7 People)
9 Penrith Road , Leicester C.B., Leicestershire, England

FIRST NAME(S) LAST NAME(S) DOB SEX OCCUPATION MARITAL STATUS SCHEDULE SCHEDULE SUB NUMBER
Ivan Crockett 17 Mar 1921 Male Engineers Turner Heavy Work Single 158 5
Reginald T Croskett 18 Dec 1886 Male Hosiery Waster Sorter Heavy Work Married 158 1
Mary G Crockett 10 Jan 1884 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Married 158 2
Ronald E Crockett 29 Nov 1917 Male Fabric Weighing Clerk Hosiery Assistant Foreman Single 158 3
Joan M Wainwright (Crockett) 05 Sep 1919 Female Hosiery Welter Single 158 4
Terence Crockett 17 Mar 1921 Male Hosiery Assistant Foreman Single 158 6
Sorry, this record is officially closed. Check if you can open a closed record.

Joan Crockett became a Wainwright after the Register was compiled. A date in the margin as what looks like 25.4.43 - the date the register was altered not necessarily the date of the marriage.

The closed record will be of someone born after 1917 who is still alive or whose death has not yet been picked up. The register was used post war as the basis for the NHS and was updated until c 1990

It was initially set up as WW2 commenced to list all but service personnel so Ration cards could be issued, persons of the right age to be called up could be identified etc

Unpaid domestic duties basically means Housewife

Brian has sent a PM - have asked him to reply on the thread and mentioned the tick and how to get around it if still needing answers!

Thank you for the post.
Looks like Terrence and Ivan b.1921 could have been twins.
It is Ivan Crockett b.1945 that I am trying to find also.
Regards
Brian

Re Ivan 1945 , and his wife - -

Their phone number is under his wife's first initial (D).
Search for it in Leicestershire here:
www.thephonebook.bt.com

It's the only one, and is the same address as they were at in 2010 per ER on Ancestry. On 192.com they are on the current ER 2014-18 at a postcode which starts the same, though I don't have credits to see the full address.

Using https://www.thephonebook.bt.com/person/ you might find it easier to add Ratby as the place of residence.

The post code, as ArgyllGran says, does match the entry on https://www.192.com/all/search/

The Crocketts are first listed there in the year it was last sold. Its certainly worth the price of a stamp.

Thank you all for the help.
GG what is the Register you refer to, it looks very informative.

Would that be the 1939 Register listing names, dob & occupations within a household?

It was compiled on 29 Sep 1939 at the outbreak of WW2. Its aim at the time was to identify people young enough to be conscripted into the forces, & others to be directed to ‘war work’. It also enabled the government to work out rations based on the population.
Later it formed the basis of the NHS. The images show a series of numbers & letters. These became the individual’s NHS number. It was updated until 1992 at which time it was abandoned as a working document.

The register is available to view on Findmypast & more recently on Ancestry.co.uk. Both sites have been trying to match deaths which occurred after 1992 to ‘open’ previously closed records. Entries would otherwise be redacted until 100 years after the persons birth.

My father’s, 1923-2006, has been opened. My mother’s, 1919-2003, is not. It’s easier to match males as they rarely change their surname.

I don't see a Leicestershire marriage of parents to match the Crockett/Merril birth 1945.

There's a 1942 marriage of a William Crockett in Nottingham to a Florence Morrell, but that's the nearest I can see.

I hope to meet Ivan next week in Leicester I will let him decide if he wants to pay to go on Findmypast, though it does look good.
Also, hopefully we can look at his birth certificate.

Do you know Dawn who has a thread about these people?

Brian

Brian Report 16 Aug 2018 15:51

Will do this. Yes I am talking to Dawn.

Brian

Brian Report 17 Aug 2018 07:55

All is revealed. Thank you Dawn.
It appears Irene Merrill first married David Lorimer, a Flight Sergent in the REF in 1942.
Unfortunately he died that same year and is buried in Germany.
Thank you all for the help
