?? William age 22 in 1876 as per marriage record, so the death posted by Mary (and below) is a bit too old I think - he would be c 32/3 in 1887 born c 1854

Norman "Fisher" as per 1891 census would appear to be a WINN

WINN, NORMAN OLIVER BROWN - Order
GRO Reference: 1891 M Quarter in WORKSOP Volume 07B Page 38

Edwin and previous children were registered as Fisher's in 1899 and before, but the surname would be considered to be that of the Mother at the time of registration unless another man was there to admit paternity, so who's to tell when William disappeared. She may not have been a widow at all??

Hi greyghost, yes this is the correct family and you can see why I am so keen to find details of Williams death.
The last I have of him is his marriage to Elizabeth which is where I learnt that he was a soldier in the 22nd foot regiment.
The birth certificate for Henry Albert Fisher ( B 1881) shows no fathers name!

This is the only baptism I can find on either Find My Past - Notts baptisms or on the freereg site for the children. It could be that they haven't been transcribed of course.

I wonder if she was widowed or was saying she was widowed by 1881 and none of the children after that were actually William's? they may just have gone their separate ways.

Some very interesting information is coming from both greyghost and Mary.
Seems that if he died in India then I have hit a brick wall! Thanks to you both.
