Dea- you are the contributor who keeps giving! Having just read your post I went to look out the wedding photo of Ellis and his wife. I also checked my family tree info and some old newspaper cuttings . I noticed that Ellis's father David was in Ellis's wedding photo and the family tree tells me that he survived Ellis by a year. His wife Jane nee Roberts ( my husband's great -grandmother) died within months of giving birth to her youngest child- the sister of Ellis and Tom. By the time David died he had lost his wife almost 40 years before and two daughters (adults) and two sons.
A newspaper cutting of Mrs Ellis Davies's funeral ( I don't know when) names amongst the mourners who sent flowers, Jack, Pearl and Jane. Is this the Jack mentioned above as being son of Tom? Unfortunately it doesn't say where they are from and having initially been excited by this I don't know if it takes us any further.

They are together- Jack, Pearl a Jane:
It is in Welsh- " a" means "and".
I reckon this report is approx 1960 - 1970.

Yes Anne Crampton is buried near Jane and her husband and my inlaws.
The post above of 20.30 was in response to a question which has mysteriously disappeared!

Yes, sorry - I thought better of my qustion, and deleted it - must have been just as you posted your reply.

I had thought maybe Pearl was Jack's wife - but can see no sign of any such marriage - at least not in the UK.

There are no marriages of a Jack Davies to a Pearl, in England and Wales, but there are some marriages of men named John Davies to ladies named Pearl.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 10 Oct 2018 12:44

Indeed there are.
Assuming (BIG assumption) that Pearl was Jack/John's wife, and that Jane was their daughter, and that neither Pearl nor Jane was a nickname -

The only John Davies / Pearl marriage in a likely timeframe, which might match the birth of a child named Jane is this one:

Marriages Dec 1943 (>99%)
Davies John Evans Carmarthen 11a 2241
Evans Pearl M Davies Carmarthen 11a 2241

Births of children named Jane Davies with mms Evans:

in Cardigan C in 1941; two in Cardigan C 1943; Holywell 1945; Cardigan N 1949; West Glamorgan 1951; Neath 1956; Machynlleth in 1956, in Stoke in 1957; Bedwellty 1959; Caerleon 1960; Cardiff 1963; Haverfordwest 1963; Brentwood 1965

But huge assumptions all round!

Yes, that's why I chickened out of pursuing that line of enquiry, but kudos to you, ArgyllGran, for having a decent go at it. :-D

I don't know that he DID die in 1916- its just that this is what is said on the family tree. However Tom from Ffestiniog who died in 1918 enlisted in Tredegar close to Merthyr in the Cheshire Regiment so I think that I'll try and contact them
I think I've found the person Alison Arnold mentioned above and have sent her an email. My husband has also written to a cousin ( the same relation to Tom and Ellis as he is) to ask if he knows anything.
The Archives rang me this morning to say they had not found anything.
Youe enthusiasm is infectious.
I've been in a similar position to this some years ago when it looked hopeless but I did find the relative in the States so onwards and upwards.
I'll be back!
