Like you, I can't see a Peatman/Marshall marriage anywhere.

Or Baker/Marshall, for that matter.

Could be a coincidence, but Eliza, the grandmother, was Eliza Baker before she married, and 2 of her siblings married 2 of her husbands siblings, so there were very close ties between the Baker and Peatman families. May not be such a long shot.

Long shot -

Could Iris be the illegitimate daughter of one of the Peatman sons, and given his name in 1911 (or adopted by the Peatman family) , although registered under her mother's surname ???

I am looking for some help trying to track down Iris Peatman. She appears on the 1911 census as the grandaughter of Eliza Peatman, living in Ropsley, Lincolnshire with the same given as her birthplace. Her age is 2 or 3. I believe she is probably the illegitimate daughter of one of the children, possibly Maud Eliza 22 who is a live in cook to a clergyman in Allington Lincolnshire. However I can find no birth regn to enable me to confirm this. The only other possible trace of Iris I have found is on the 1939 register, which has an Iris Peatman, unmarried mother with a son Roy, in Ratcliffe on Trent, Notts. However, the entry shows her dob as 5 Oct 1910. The reg shows a change of last name for both Iris and Roy to Marshall made on 1 Sep 1948, but that hasn't helped as I can't trace a marriage. I should perhaps mention that there is another Iris Peatman in the wider family, but she wasn't born until 1922 in Nottinghamshire. Can someone else suceed where I have failed?
